GARMENT HANGER Application filed September The present invention relates to garment hangers primarily designed for use with wardrobe trunks.

It is an object of the invention to provide a garment hanger which may be used for the garments of both men and women.

Another object ofthis invention is to provide ahanger which may be removed from the wardrobe trunk and used as an ordinary garment hanger in household wardrobes.

And a still further object of the invention is to provide a strong and durable garment hanger which is adapted to be used in any size or kind of wardrobe trunk.

Further objects of this invention will appear from the following description and accompanying drawings.

' Generally, this invention comprises across bar which slides on a single or a pair of rail members arranged inthe trunk. On the cross bar a member is detachably mounted which, when mounted in one position, in combination with the cross bar is adapted for the hanging of mens clothing, and when mounted 5 in the otherposit-ion, for womens clothing.

Referring to'the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the hanger arranged for holding mens clothing. Fig.2 is a front elevation illustrating the hangerin position for holding vwomens clothing; and

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cross bar.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, on each end of a cross bar 1,hooks 2 are adjustably secured to a sleeve 5 by means of bolts 3 and nuts 1. The sleeves 5 are clamped to' the cross bar 1 by a bolt 6 projecting through a longitudinal slot 7 and permit a longitudinal adjustment of the hooks 2. The hooks 2 are adapted to slide on rails arranged in awardrobe trunk (not shown). This adjustable feature permits the use of the hanger in any sized or type of wardrobe trunk.

At the mid-point of the cross bar 1, there is provided means for securing a member 8.

As shown in the drawings, this means consists of a U-shaped member 9 having hooked ends 10. The hooked ends are adapted to fit in slots 4, 1929. Serial 110.390335.

11 in the member 8 and a latch or look 12 holds the member 8 and the cross bar 1 firmly together. The member 8 has a circular form corresponding to the shape of the shoulder portion of a garment. Obviously the member 8 may be square or circular and of such size as to correspond to the average sized garment. To the member 8 there is secured a member 13 having a cross member 1 1 at its lower eXtrem-. ity. The length of the member 13 corresponds to the trunk length of the average garment. The member 13 may be either integral with the member 8 or detachably secured thereto. The cross member 14 is adapted to snugly fit in the hooks 10, and abut against the lower part of the cross bar 1 as shown in Fig. 2. It is held in this position by a catch 15.

On the upper part of the member 8 there is a hinged hook 16 for hanging the hanger in. a household wardrobe.

When the hanger is assembled as shown in Fig. 1, it is adapted for the hanging of mens clothing, the coat and vest being hung on the member 8 and the trousers placed over the cross bar 1.

When it is desired to hang womens clothing such as dresses and the like, the member 8 is disengaged from the cross bar 1 and assembled as shown in Fig. 2; the shoulder. portion of the womens garment being placed around the member 8 and the lower part of the garment draped over the cross bar 1.

Obviously any satisfactory means for detachably securing the two members together may be employed and while I have shown the invention in but one form, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited, but is susceptible of various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit thereof, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be placed there upon as are imposed by the prior art or as specifically set forth in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A garment hanger comprising a cross bar having a U-shaped member fixed thereto, the arms thereof having terminal hooks, a garment supporting member having slots therein, a member having one of its ends connected with the garment supporting member and its other end provided with a cross member, said hook terminals being adapted to engage said slots to hold said members in one position and to engage the cross member to 1 hold said members in an inverted position.

2. A garment hanger comprising a cross bar having hooks thereon, a garment supporting bar having slots therein, a member having one end connected with the garment supporting' bar and having a cross member upon its other end, said garment supporting bar and 'member being capable of being inverted to v engage the hooks in the slots or the cross bar therewith,
