This invention relates to improvements in service drawers for ranges and its object is to provide a service drawer so constructed that it can move backward and forward on wheels, thus decreasing its friction, and Secondly to provide the drawer and its housing of suflicient size to accommodate a drip pan in the said housing whereby the drip pan is concealed when the drawer is closed.

We are aware that several efforts have been made to-provide wheel bearings for movable parts of ranges but we believe the construction hereinafter set forth is novel.

One object of the invention is to provide the housing with U-shaped tracks which extend longitudinal the drawer and the housing and are preferably located substantially central of the sides of the drawer, and to provide the front ends of the tracks with wheels having fixed bearings the periphery of the wheels extending slightly above'the lower leg of the U-shaped tracks and to provide the side walls of the drawer with outwardly longitudinally extending flanges which extend between the upperand lower legs of the U-shaped tracks, and to provide the inner ends of the outer sizes of the drawers with wheels having fixed bearings, said wheels having their periphery located between the upper and lower legs of the tracks, whereby at all times the drawer is supported in all of its movements upon wheels, although there are only wheels at the front ends of the tracks and at the rear end of the flange of the drawer.

A further object of the invention is to cut out the upper leg of the tracks that are carried by the wall whereby when the drawer is being placed in position the wheels at the rear ends of the drawer will pass through this cut away portion and between the two legs of the U-shaped tracks, and to provide movable stop means preferably carried by the said tracks. said means'movable inthe line of travel of the rear wall of the drawer whereby when the said means are in position the drawer can not he accidentally withdrawn.

Referring now particularly to Figure 1, the housing A consists of the side walls 1, the rear wall 2 and the front frame 3, and 4 the front end of the drawer.

Located in the upper portion of the housing are longitudinally extending supports or tracks 5 which receive and support an ordinary drip pan 6. These supports or tracks are preferably U-shaped in form and have their front ends 7 attached to an inwardly bent wall 8 that is preferably integral with the vertical walls 3 of the frame 3. These tracks 5 are located in a horizontal plane below the top wall 3 of the frame 3 whereby the said drip pan when the drawer is open can be withdrawn or placed in position withthe'drawer when it is closed is of sufiicient size to cover the opening formed by the frame 3 and therefore conceals the said drip pan.

The side walls 9 of the drawer extend upwardly substantially half the height of the outer end wall 4 of the drawer. However these walls 9 may extend upward if desired to a'fl'point near the drip pan supporting track 5 so long as they do not interefere with the said drip pan or its tracks.

Located within the housing and extending longitudinal thereof are U-shaped tracks 10. The front ends 11 of these tracks are attached to the inwardly bent wall 8 of the frame 3 while their rear ends are provided 1 with inwardly bent ears 12 which are bolted to the rear wall 2 of the housing A.

Secured to the side walls of the drawer are outwardly extending flanges 13 which extend longitudinal the walls 9 and are located between the horizontal legs of the tracks 10. The inner corners of the drawer are 'provided with suitable wheels 14, the said wheels being of a diameter somewhat less than the distance between the horizontal leg portions 10. The front ends of the tracks 10 are provided with wheels 15 and have their bearings fixed to said front ends. These wheels are of a diameter to have their upper periphery project to a position about mid-way between the leg portions 10 of the said tracks and the upper peripheries engage the outwardly extending flanges 13, and these wheels 14 and 15 thereby form wheel bearings which support the said drawer throughout its whole movement within the housing. It will be observed from the foregoing that the wheels 14 will engage the upper leg 10 of the track 10 when the weight of the front end of the drawer is sufiicient to tilt the drawer slightly to cause it to engage the upper leg. When the drawer is pushed within the housing sufficiently to cause the weight of the drawer and its contents to depress the drawer then he lower peripheries of the wheels 14 will engage the'lower leg 10 of the tracks 10, while at all times the wheels 15 will be in engagement with the outwardly extending flanges 13. y

In order to permit the drawer to be wholly removed and placed in the said housing the outer ends of the upper legs 10' of the tracks 10 are cut out as shown at 16 sufiiciently to enable the wheels 14 to be vertically dropped in position to roll between the upper and lower legs 10 of the tracks 10.

For the purpose of preventing the drawer being accidentally withdrawn from the housing we provide movable stops 17 which are suitably pivotally supported on pivotal points 18 to the outer sides of the tracks 10. These stops have their front ends made substantially L-shaped in cross section the horizontal leg of the L-shaped portion having its front end provided with a downwardly extending lip 19 for the purpose of engaging the upper leg 10 when the said stop is in its horizontal position, while the rear inner leg 20 of this stop is bent as shown at 21 in line to be engaged by a projection 22 when the drawer is pulled outward. In this way the bent portion 21 forms a stop to prevent the drawer being accidentally withdrawn by striking the projection 22. "When it is desired to remove the drawer then these stops are .turned upward out of line with the projection 22 as shown in dotted lines. Figure 3.

The projectionv22 is formed as a part of the side walls 9 of the drawer.

It must be clear from the foregoing description that we have produced a wheel bearing for a range drawer that consists of only two front wheels having fixed bearings and two wheels carried'by theirear ends of the side walls of the drawer which in the manner set forth form wheels on which the drawer rolls at all times.

In Figure 1 the lower portion of a range is shown, but it will be understood that the up-' per portion of the range will be attached to the lower portion here shownor it may be an integral portion of the said range as will be readily understood without it being shown. Also that this service drawer may be attached to any desired portion of the range without departing from the spirit and scope of the present improvement.

We have described the above improvement in considerable detail but we wish it understood that changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention so long as they come within a liberal interpretation of the appended claims.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A service drawer for ranges comprising a housing having a drawer opening, a drawer located within the opening, longitudinally extending trackportions su ported by the side walls of the housing, fixe wheels located at the front ends of the track portions, said drawer having the outer sides of its side walls provided with longitudinal flanges extending outwardly therefrom and located between the said tracks, the inner ends of the drawer car rying wheels adapted to engage the said track portion whereby the drawer can be moved backward and forward and at all times be supported by the said wheels.

2. A service drawer for ranges comprising a housing having at opposite sides longitudinally extending U-shaped tracks, a drawer having wide side walls fitting betweenthe said tracks, said walls having at their outer sides longitudinally extending horizontal flanges located between the parallel legs of the U-shaped tracks, rollers supported at the front ends of said U-shaped tracks with their peripheries located between the said legs of the track and rollers carried at the rear ends of the said drawer, said rollers movable between the said track portion and being of a diameter less than the space between the legs of the tracks whereby the drawer is supported in the manner set forth.-

Service drawers for ranges comprising a housing having a drawer opening at one end and the side walls of the openings bent inwardly, U-shaped tracks located at opposite sides of the housing and having their front ends secured to said inwardly bent portion and their rear ends supported at the rear portion of the housing, a drawer movable through the said ope. ing and having wide side walls housing having at its outer end a drawer opening, drip pan tracks located within the housing and intermediate the upper and lower ends of the said opening and supported by the said housing, longitudinally extending tracks within the housing and supported thereby, said tracks located below the said drip pan supports, a service drawer movable through the said opening and having its outer end adapted to substantially fill the outer opening and drip pan on the said supports whereby when the service drawer is closed the drip pan is also enclosed by the outer end of the said drawer.
