This invention relates to steam boilers of the water tube type that. are suitable for high pressures, and will be understood from the description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section through an embodiment of the invention; Fig. 2 is a section along the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section along the line 33 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a section along the line H of Fig.
In the drawings, reference character 5 indicates inclined water tubes that may be installed, for example, above a furnace, so that the hot products of combustion can pass These tubes are connected to headers 6 and 7 at the respective ends thereof, andbaffles 8, 9, 10'and 11 are provided to cause the hot products of combustion to traverse the tubes 5, with three passes thereacross, as indicated by the arrows. A partition or bafie 12 is provided to direct the waste gases to the outlet 13.
Nipples 15 connect the upper ends of the headers 6 to the lower portion of inclined tubular headers 16 that extend longitudinally of the boiler,and are shielded from the hot products of combustion b means of the baffies 10 and 12. Nipples 1 connect the upper ends of the headers 7 to the upper portions of the headers 16; These tubes cross each other, as indicated most clearly in Fig. '2, so that water will circulate between the headers to prevent too much concentration of impurities in any particular headers and rows of tubes. A cross ipe 20 for feed water extends across the boiler beneath the headers 16, and is connected to these headers by means of the tubes 21, and is suspended from the headers by means of the straps 22.
Nipples 24 connect the lower ends of the header 16to vertically disposed headers 25. The up er ends of the headers 25 are connccted y means of nipples 26 to the cross pipe 27, and tubes 28 connect the cross pipe 27 to a parallel cross pipe 29, the ends of which are provided with connections 30 for pipes to a steam mam.
The upper ends of the headers 16 are concross pipe 20, from which it enters the headers 16 through the pipes 21, and flows downwardly through the nip les 15, downtake headers 6, through the tues 5, where steam is generated. The mixture of steam and water flows upwardly through the headers 7, nipples 17, into the headers 16, where the steam and water is separated, the water flowmg downwardly in the headers 16 and the steam passing through the tubes 31 to headers 25, where more separation of steam and Water may take place, the water flowing downwardly through the nipples 24 into the headers 16, and the steam passing upwardly into the cross pipe 27, and thence through the tubes 28 to the cross pipe 29and out through the connections 80 to the steam main. The water level will preferably be maintained at a point where the headers 16 will inclined headers, and vertically disposed headers located above said inclined headers and connected to the respective end portions of said inclined headers out of line with said first named connections.
