UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. HENRY BEEBEAND EDGARD OANONGE, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CASES FOR CIGARETTE-PAPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,984, dated August 15, 1876; application filed March 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HENRY BEEBE and EDGARD GANoNeE, residents of the city of New Orleans, and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cigarette-Paper Case; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification.
The object of our invention is to provide a simple, cheap, convenient, and durable pocketcase for containing cigarette papers or wrappers, and preserving them from perspiration or dirt; it also provides a means by which a single leaf may be withdrawn without disarranging the balance.
But our invention will be better understood by referring to the accompanying drawing, whereon- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the case, as when closed; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the case. with the cover tlll'OWlLbfLOk. Fig. 3 shows the manner in which a single Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 5 a perspective, of a spring, the object of which will hereinafter be described.
A is the case proper, which is made of metal or other suitable material, and provided at its open end with a hinged cover, B, having a small projecting lip,c, and segmental catch d, the latter to be engaged by the hook 6, when the case is closed. 0 shows the cigarette papers or wrappers, which are kept perfectly smooth and closely packed by means of a sprin D, and an adjustable plate, f, the rear end of which is bent down over the spring, so as to prevent its slipping off the same. The cover is made sufliciently short to leave, when closed, a narrow space, g, across the face of the case, through which the papers are designed to be withdrawn, the modus operandi being to first open the box by pressing against the projecting lip 0, so as to expose the package of wrappers. The end of the upper wrapper is then thrown back out of the Way of the cover, which is next closed, so as to permit of the said wrapper being withdrawn from the case, as shown at Fig. 3.
Although not shown in the drawing, asmall spring may be attached to the cover, for the purpose of opening the latter the moment it is released from the hook.
Having described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The case A, hinged end piece B, which also, as shown, forms the removable section of the cover, spring D, of a form that will provide a hearing at the opposite ends of the plate f, and the plate f, having atlange, d, at its rear end, which prevents its slipping oft'of the spring, the whole combined and arranged to operate substantially as described.
2. A cigarette-paper case, consisting of the case A, hinged end piece B, which also forms the removable section of the cover, the latter constructed, and of such dimensions, as to leave, when closed, a narrow opening, g, across the ease, between the hinged piece B and the permanently-attached section of the cover, spring D,'and platef, having flange d, the whole constructed, combined,'and arranged substantially as described, as and for the purpose specified.
This specification signed this 11th day of March, 1876.
