Description

G. F. CHESNEY CORD FAS-TENER June 2, 1931.-
Filed Dec. 22, 1930 zqyli' I IPJVENTOR Q My? I ATTORNEY,
Patented June 2, 1931 our-so STATES PA T ENCTfOF FI EI,
any n. CHESNEY, onsrenmnnuno, soornonaonmnr Y com) rns'rnnnra i Application filed December 22, 1930. Serial iNor 504,172.
1d Figure 5 This. invention relates to improvements in quick detachable cord fasteners and has for the primary object, the provision of a device of the above stated character whereby a wrapping or securing cord for packages and like articles may be easily and quickly secured about the package without forming,
or tying knots in the cord and which will permit the cord to be easily and quickly re- 19 moved with the cord and. fastener ready for further use, thereby providing a large saving in wrapping cord over the now customary practice employed on packages wherein the cord is tied in various ways and to remove the latter from a packageand rendering the cord unfit for further use.
Another object of this invention is the provision of' a cord fastener of the above stated character which will be simple, durable and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings and the following de-' scription, in which Figure 1 1s a front elevatlon of a cord '5 fastener constructed in accordance with my Figure 2 1s an'edge elevation illustrating the same. I V
Figure 3 is an end view showing certain of the groves for receiving the cord.
Figure 4: is a sectional view illustrating the position of the cord within the various grooves.
the fastener of the cord removed.
Referring in detail to the drawings the numeral 1 indicates the body of the cord fastener which may be of any desired shape preferably of rectangular formation as shown in which usually requires severance of the cord is a perspective view illustrating the drawing with 'a Hat rear faceQada-ptedto rest against the'package 3 and with a similar outer or front face 4 having grooves-5 and 6 formed therein and which grooves areare' ranged at right angles to eachother while the groove 5'is located "adjacent one end of the body 'andthe groovefi locat'ed adjacent one of thesides of the body and communicating with the groove 5 at one 'endandextending through one end of the body; The ends of the groove 5 extendthrough oppositeisidesof the body. l
. The body 'i's provided with a. chamber 't the usual way. The other end of the wrapping cord 11 is secured to one end of the body 1 as at 12. 1 i
The body 1 is placed against one face of the package to be wrapped and the cord is first extended about thepaokage in the direction indicated by the arrows in Figure 1, this positions one runof the cord in the groove 6 and through the groove 5 bearing against the rounded end 9 ofthe portion 8 where said run of the cord extends again about the package and enters the groove 5 as shown; I
in Figure 1, and is brought into engagement with the rounded end 9 of the portion Sand between the ribs 10 firmly securingthe free end of the cord to the body with the runs of,
age. 1
To untie, the package, it is only necessary the cord .eflicienilypositioned about the pack} to disengage the free end of the cord from the ribs 10 and remove the cord from the j' grooves 5 and 6 and the device is then ready for use on another package.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment ofmy invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing. from the V spirit and scope as claimed.
a Having thus described my invention, What ing grooves formed in one face thereof and arranged at right angles to each other, a tying I claim 1s:
1. A cord fastener comprising a body havcord secured at one end to the body and passed about a package to provide several runs in the cord receivable in said grooves, and means "detachably securing the free end of the cord to the body. V
2. A cord fastener comprising a body hav I ing grooves formed in one face and arranged at right angles toeach other andiin commu-' nication withie'ach other,,a tying cord secured at one end to the body and passed" about a packagesand through said grooves,
and interlockingribs on said body to receive the free end of the cord. 7
3. A cord fastener comprising a body having grooves in one faceandarranged-at right angles to each other and in communication 1 with each other, said body'havinga chamher communicating With oneof the grooves, a Wrapping cord securedat oneend to the body and passed about a package several times and extended through the grooves with the free I end disposed in the chamber and projecting beyond one. edge of the body, and staggered arranged ribs formed in said chamber to re ceive and gripthe cord adjacent the freeend. V In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature. I
, -GUY OHESNEY.
