COMBINED CIGARETTE DISPENSER 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Filed Feb. 24, 1930 INVENTOR ADQLPH BJJIPPSON a- W A TZORNEY Patentecl May 19, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ADOLPH B. JIPPSON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO COMBINED CIGARETTE DISPENSER, MATCH BOX HOLDER, AND ASH RECEIVER Application filed February 24, 1930. Serial No. 430,801.
This invention relates to a combined cigarette dispenser and match box holder and ash receiver and has for its object to provide a simple and improved device of this character, which is particularly adapted for use on the dash of automobiles so that the driver or other occupant of the car may conveniently extract the cigarettes from the receptacle, and the match from the holder, and with a convenient ash receiver which also serves as a cover for the cigarette container.
The above named and other features and advantages of the invention will more fully appear from the following specifications, reference being had to the accompanying drawin s, in whlchz ig. 1 is a front elevation of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, showing the closed position of the discharge apparatus in the normal or closed position.
Fig. 3 is the same as Fig. 2, except that the discharge apparatus is shown in the propelling or closed position.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device shown attached to the instrument-board of an automobile.
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of an upper corrugated flap.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a lower or propelling flap.
Fig. 7 is a view of the under side of the lower flap showing the spring.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the ash receptacle.
Referring to the drawings:
The invention as shown comprises a casing or body 1 with wink-like projections or holders 2 at each side with flanges 23 bent around the corners of body 1, the top of both wing holders 2 being open as shown at 3 with a rectangular aperture 4 at the front and near the top; the strip of metal 5, thus left by forming the aperture 4, is then bent back and over the frame 6 in such manner as will leave a clearance between the inner wall 7 of the projecting wing portions 2 and the metal strip 5 over which is pressed a box of safety matches as shown at 8, the cover 9 of which thus slips down until the match striking portion 10 is framed within the aperture 4 which leaves the match container portion 11 of the box 8 open as shown in Fig. 4.
The removable ash container or receptacle 12 consists of a base 13 which is fitted into the open top 14 and is held in position by the pressure of the rolled edge 15 against the inner wall of the cover 14 where it forms an angle at the intersection of the slope top 16 and the overhanging flange 17. This receptacle 12 is set on the body 1 in such manner that thebase 13 is on the inside of the body 1 and the overhanging flange 17 fits over the outside of the body 1 which has its upper edge turned inward at 18 and parallel with the outer walls so that the rolled edge 15 of the base 13 rests on the rolled upper edge 18 of the body 1.
When the ash receptacle 12 is removed the cigarettes 19 may be inserted in the open top of the body 1 where they rest against the corrugated flap 20 which is attached at its upper end by a pin 21 journaled into the bent over edge 22, each end of said pin 21 being inserted in and protruding through openings in the side walls of the body 1, the' other end of the corrugated flap 20 thus being free to rest forwardly on the propelling flap 24, and causing the corrugated flap 20 to assume an angle sloping forward. Propelling flap 24 is attached to the body 1 in the same manner as the corrugated flap 20, but beneath the said flap 20 and at right angles to the rear wall 25 of the body 1, where it is held in this position by the tension spring 26 which fits over the pin 27 journaled into the bent over edge 28 of the flap 24 and held in the cut-out portion 29 of the propelling flap 24 by the projecting uncut portions of 90 the bent edge 28, the projecting end 31 of the tension spring 26 resting on the under side of the propelling flap 24, the other end 32 being fastened rigidly to the pin 27, thus creating the tension which holds the propelling flap 24 in its closed position as shown in Fig. 2. The propelling Hap 24 has, fastened to the under side at its downward bending edge 33, a lever 34 journaled in a sleeve 35 which is an integral part of the flap 24; the said lever 34 being bent upward at flange 38 of the body 1. Projecting outwardly from the body 1 is a curved ledge 39 with pelling flap 24 eject it from th said opening,
two upflunglips 40 spaced at equal distance from the center.
article when by the spring. In testimon nature.
When the lever 34 is depressed the pro- 7 and the corrugated flap 20 together as shown in Fig. 3 cigarette 19 forward until top surface of the bent edge 33 move downward which drops the it rests on the v and against the inner wall of the ledge 39, then. as the pressure on the lever 34 is removed the edge 33 of the propelling flap 24 moves upward carrying the front cigarette 19 to the top of the ledge 39 into which it rolls.
The body 1 and wing projections 2 are mounted on a base 41, the wing projections 2 fitting over the frames 6 which are a part of the base 41, being held together by means of two screws 42 which are screwed through the outer walls of the wings 2 and into the frame This device may be attached to an instrument-board of an automobile by screws, bolts or other suitable means, or it may stand on a table or be used elsewhere.
claim:
1. An article delivery device comprising a casing forming a holder and having an opening at the front, a pivoted inclined flap forming the bottom of the holder and on which the articles rest, a spring-pressed support under said flap, and means to depress said support and permit the flap to lower, to deliver one of the articles at said opening.
2. A device as in claim 1, the support comprising a delivering flap on which the lower front edge of said inclined flap rests, in position to receiveone of the articles thereon when the delivery flap is depressed and to e opening when the flaps are raised.
3. A device as in claim 1, the support comprising a delivery flap on which the lower front edge of said inclined flap rests, the
front edge of the delivering flap projecting beyond the front edge of the inclined flap and working across said opening in position to support one of the articles when depressed and (so eject it through the opening when raise 4 An article delivery device comprising a casing having a delivery opening at the front, an upper flap pivoted at its rear edge in the casing and inclined toward said opening, a
spring-supported lower flap in the casing,
on which the front edge of the upper flap, rests, said lower flap being pivoted at its rear edge and having a bent front edge adjacent and means to depress the lower through the flap, permitting delivery of the foremost the flap is subsequently lifted y whereof, I do aflix my sig.
