TOILET PACKAGE Filed April 2. 1928 F' .1 20 W Q1 12! w JPob (2,77%. fir/1,5611% Patented May 12, 1931 T. OFEQE ROBERT H. VAN SANT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS TOILET PACKAGE Application filed April 2, 1928. Serial No. 266,572.
This invention relates to toilet articles and has for its principal object to provide an improved package containing a toilet prepara tion and an applicator. The preferred form and arrangement is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in whichl is an elevation;
Fig. 2 is a plan view and 3 is a central vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
This specific illustration and the correspondingly specific description are used for the purpose of making the disclosure full and clear and are not intended to impose such limitations on the claims as would permit the substance of the invention to be used in other forms. without infringement.
The container comprises a bottom 10 and a generally upright circular wall 11, together forming what may be termed the body portion, and also a convex top 12 having a wall 13 telescoping with the wall 11. The telewalls are provided with comple- 7 spiral corrugations 14: having the eff. forming threads by which they are securely joined I together.
The central portion of the convex top 12 is provided with a central discharge opening 15 surrounded by a flange 16. This flange and the convex portion form a seat for an applicator such as the powder pull 17, which is of sufficient dimensions to overlap the convex top for a considerable area around the opening 15.
The cap comprises a central fiat portion 18 corresponding roughly to the size of the discharge opening 15. A convex portion 19 and a marginal wall 20, which is corrugated at 21 to form threads cooperating with those in the walls 11 and 13.
The powder pufi 17 is of a yielding character and is pressed against the seat on the upper portion of the container by the cap and thus iorinsan inner closure and seal for the container. The threaded connection between the wall 20 and the corresponding wall 11 of the container forms an outer seal. Thus the pacl age is made practically secure against the escape, not only of the powder or other preparation, but of the aromatic constituents thereof.
The wall 11 extends a short distance above the convex wall 12, as shown at 22, and forms with the convex wall a sort of trough to catch and contain powder that may be inadvertently dislodged from the pufi upon the convex portion. Such powder is thus prevented from escaping down the sides of the container, or being lost on the dresser, or the like.
The powder puli being considerably larger than the discharge opening 15, its marginal portion receives little or no powder and thus the user has much better control in applying the powder to the skin.
In use the cap being removed and the puff being placed in the position shown in Fig. 3, the container is inverted and the powder thrown against the exposed portion of the puff and thecontainer returned to normal position. The puff is then used in the usual, or any suitable manner, and afterward is returned to its position on the convex top substantially as shown. The cap is then put on and screwed down, effectively sealing the container. The pull being somewhat smaller than the area within the walls 22, no particular care is required in placing it on the top preparatory to closing the package. The wall 22 unconsciously guides the user and assists in insuring that the pufi will be properly placed.
I claim as my invention 1.. In a toilet package, a container having a convex top wall provided with a single comparatively large axial opening therein. the inner surface of said top wall sloping toward said opening, the marginal edge of said wall surrounding said opening being extended upwardly to form an upstanding flange, the side wall of said container extending upwardly beyond the top to form a continuous flange for preventing toilet material falling on said top from sliding of? the same, an applicator of substantially greater area than said opening adapted to be positioned on said flange and top wall over said openii and a cap for said container for holding said applicator in position on said flange for closing said opening.
2. In a package for containing toilet p0W- der, a container having a top Wall curved outwardly in cross-section and provided with a single relatively large axial opening, the inner surface of said top wall sloping toward said opening, an upstanding guard extending around said opening, an applicator on said guard and having its marginal edges extending a substantial distance outwardly of said guard all around the same, and a cap for said container for holding said applicator on said guard for closing said opening said opening being of such an area that the amount of powder adhering to the puff will be sulficient for one application.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
