As distinct fromthe mechanism shown in the Voight patent, it is herein proposed to provide aV cylinder lock mechanism orthe like provided with` pin tumblers in which butra single set of breaks or shears is necessary and a single rollback is provided, whichlmay be yoperated by either a change key or an emergency key. This gate 33 is provided with beveled or inclined surfaces to cooperaterin an obvious matter with the extreme edge of the wing34 to deadlock the bolt in protracted position and retracted position, respectively, and between the beveled or inclined surfaces a small notch is provided to receive the edgeof the wing as the latter 'is kmoved through a quarter turn for protractinor or retracting the bolt. j LThe bolt is provided wll'i a tumbler 35 `pivoted on a post 36 at the forward part of the bolt shank, so as to be carried by the bolt, and having a projection 37 extending between the talons 26 andV 27 into cooperation with the cylinder lock, as hereinafter described, This tumbler 'is provided intermediate its ends with a lug 38 to cooperate with the fence 30 in locking the bolt either in the retracted vposition or the protracted position. Below the tumbler 35 and pivoted to the lock case is a second tumbler 39 which cooperates with the thumb turn hub in deadlocking the dead bolt. This tumbler is pivoted on a post 40 'and has a spring 41, reacting against a lug 42. The main part of tumbler 39 overlies the lower portion of the dead bolt shank and 'at its .upper part is provided with notches which converge toward and meet each other near the upper edge of the tumbler. n
One of these notches is indicated at 43 and 'the other at 44, and the spring exerts an upward Vthrust on the tumbler so as to tend to keep it firmly seated against the thumb turn hub with one or the other of the notches 43 and 44 engaging the wing 34. The tumbler by being provided with these notches exerts Vsuch an upward thrust on the wing 34 as to hold it iny cooperation with one or the other ofthe inclined surfaces of the gate 33, so that the bolt will be securely deadlocked either in retracted position or protracted position and cannot be moved out of this position except by actuation of the thumb turn orjkey mechanism.

at `61, and havinga free Iend 62 adapted to extend into cooperation with the upperledge of the lever 23 so that by depressing the lever 60 the lever 23 may be actuated to retract the latch. yFor this purpose, the Alever 60 is provided 'intermediate vits ends and in proximity to the cylinder 'lock with a 'comparatively -.deep operating projection 63 close to and having portions in substantial'alignment with the rollback 51' and abutment 56. lt will be observed, however, that theioperating projection `37on tumbler 35, while disposed in the'plane of the abutment 56, is not located in tlie' "plane of the rollback 51, so that the latter will not actuate said tumbler.

It will be noted that in this position rotation of the key plug will bring the abutment 56 into engagement with the tumbler 85, but the latter will not be actuated, owing to the fact that the abutment is free to reciprocate inwardly on the rollback, and thus clear the end of the tumbler and the talons on the dead bolt. If, however, an emergency key, such as that shown in Fig. 5,-is inserted in the cylinder lock, the extended shank on the key is received under the end of the shank or' the abutment 56 and holds the latter against movement in an inward direction. Rotation of the key plug 49 by means oi' the key will now bring the abutment 56 into Contact with the projection 37 on tumbler 85 to depress the latter and to bringthe lug 38 out ont engagement with the fence, 30, further movement of the key plug and abutment 56 bringing the latter into engagement with talon 26 to move the dead bolt inwardly into retracted position, the initial movement of the dead bolt bringing the lever 60 intorposition where it may be engaged by the rollback 5l to retract the latch, whereupon the door may be opened. It will be noted that the cylinder lock is provided with pin tumblers in which there is but a single set of breaks or shears, while but a single rollback is provided, this rollback, however, being capable upon insertion or" an emergency key, of operating the dead bolt mechanism, whereas, upon the insertion oi the ordinary or change key, the latch only may be actuated.

A cylinder lock comprising a casing, a key controlled rotatable member, an abutment mounted on said member for movement in a radial direction, said abutment being normally freely movable radially inwardly, resilient means for urging said abutment radially outwardly, means for limiting the outward movement of said abutment, and means by which a key inserted into the lock may hold the abutment against the limiting means.
9. A cylinder lock comprising a casing, a
y key controlled rotatable member, an abutment or rollback having an operative connection with said member, said abutment being movable in a radial direction, resilient means for urging said abutment outwardly, means for limiting the outward movement of the abutment, and means in addition to said resilient means forholding said abutment outwardly against the limiting means, said holding means preventing inward movement of the abutment.

11. A cylinder lock comprising a casing, a key controlled rotatable member, an abutment mounted for movement Von said member, means for limiting thevmovement of said abutment, and means for holding the abutment rigidly against-movement away from the limiting means.
