53"@ With the foregoing and Patented May 5, 1931 jimmvr omer-f' WILLIAM C.YENTSCH, OFPEORIKA, ILLINOIS v COMBINED LIFTING AND TRANSPORTING- DEVICE Application filed August `5, 1929. vSerial No. 383,589.
,y This invention relates to a combined lift-Y ing and transporting device designed primarily for use in hospitals, but it is to be M understood that a device, in accordance with this invention maybe employed in any connectionfor which it may be found applicable, and theinvention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, n a device ofthe character referredv to for 10" respectively liftingand transporting a bed containing a patient or an operating table withthe patient thereon to any-point desired.
Afu'rther object Vof the invention is to Y provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, Wa device of the character referred to so constructed and arranged to enable the patient to be raised to a point to be conveniently slid` off-from a bed or other carriage upon an operating table. I 20* Further objects of the vinvention are to provide,in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a' combined lifting and transporting device for the purpose referred to which is simple lin its construction and arrangement, strong, "25 durable, compact, thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently operated for elevating va bed or other carriage upon which a patient is arranged, `readily assembled, and comparatively inexpensive to set up.
c other objects in viewthe invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement lof parts as hereinafter' more specifically f de,
scribed, and'illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shownan embodiment of the invention, but it 'is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications canfbe resorted to which fall within the sco eV of the claims hereunto appended." 401 the drawings wherein like reference characters ydenote n throughout the several views:
' Figurel isa side elevation of a combined lifting and transporting device invac'cordance withthis'invention. 1
Figure 2 is atop plan view of the table' forming an element of the device extended.
Figure Sis an' end View of the device withthe table element thereof in extended posilaan; f
V corresponding parts Y end to the side bar l at a point',betweenfits transverse center andk one end thereof andv further connected intermediate its'ends to thel sidey bar 2 at a point between the transverse' median of the latter and one end thereof.' The intermediate bars 5, 6 project from the side bar 1. The frame further includes a pair of oppositely extending, inclined brace bars 7 Sand each of which is connectedtov intermediate barat a point between thev bars 1, 2 and extends over the point of joinder between an end bar and the bar 2 and projects outwardly from such point of'joi'nfder.
The portions of the bars5, 6 which project fromr the bar 2 are indicated atk 9 and'each of saidportions carries atits free end a castor` 10. The portions of the bars 7, 8 which prol jectbeyond the end bars of the bar 2 are indicated at 11 and the outer end of each of such portionsfis provided with a castor 12. "Each, end of the barcl` has connected therewith a castor 13.'`
Secured upon the bars 5, 6 in proximity to the bar l is the base 14C of a hydraulic jack 15, the Y latter being vertically disposed.y Thek ram of the'jack 15 is indicated atlGand is of a length .to ynormally project abovev4 the upper end of the cylinder ofthe jack.'v The jack 15 has kconnected therewith a` laterally extending combined guide and' keeper y1 7 through which extends a vertically adjustable brake rod 18, the latter having its lower end provided with a brake shoe` 19.' The rod 18 atits lower portionis peripherally threaded as at 20 for engagement with the threaded wallof an opening 21 'formed' in the base 14 and disposed vertically-of the? latter. The upper end of the ro'd18 carries' an operating handle or hand grip 22.` The rod 18 and shoe 19 provide a brake device for engagement with the floor 22 to arrest the movement of the carriage and for retaining the latter stationary when desired.
The cylinder of the jack 15, near its upper end, is formed with a laterally disposed bracket 23 intowhich is secured the upper end of a combined retainer and guide rod 24, the latter having its lower end anchored to the base 14, as at 25. The rod 24 is spaced from the cylinder of thejack and they function of the rod 24 will be hereinafter referred to.
A handle for operating the jack 15 is indicated at 26. The jack 15 is of known construction. The ram or plunger 16 is ixedat its up er end to a table 27, the latter vbeing provi ed with a suitable casting, as indicated at 28 to .receive the upper end of the ram or plunger 16. The casting 28 is positioned in' close proximity to one side edge of the table 27 and 'furtherV 'substantially centrally thereof.
The table 27 is bodily carried with the jack or plunger Y16, 'whereby when the latter is elevated or lowered the table 27 will be carried therewith. The tab-le is of rectangular contour 'and will'be preferably of a size 'substanti'aily half the size of a single bed. 'For the purpose o'f maintaining the table 27 extended with respect to the carriage 'a pair Vof oppo- `sitely extending holding rods 29 are em loyed.
and each of which has .its upper end 'Xedly setaired as atBO to the lower face of the' table and have their lower ends merge into each other as at 31 and extending from the point l,of mergence is `a coupling piece 32 which is slidablymounted on the rod 24V below theY bracket 23. The rod 24 provides a guide for the 'couplingpiece 32 when the Vram or plunger 16 is vertically shifted and owing to lthevarrangementof the coupling piece with respect to'thereds or bars 29 the 4table 27 is prevented frolt-ilting, as, 'if it attempts to tilt a binding action will be setup between the coupling piece-32 and the rod 24.
Secured to the table 27 transversely `of the lower face thereof Vis a 'pair of spaced straps 33 which 'can be employed for coupling the table 27 tothe bed or coupling the patientto the bed and with the bed removably connected tothe table. y Y
