This invention relates to safety razors andparticularly to devices of this class employing blades having double cutting edges disposed foruse at opposite sides of the holder;

. whereby the corner portions of the blade and the object of the invention is to provide improved means for mounting the blade in connection with the holder in such manner. as to support the cutting edge thereof in a curved plane with reference to the edge of the guard or guards of the holder to provide may be supportedin close relation with re spect to the adjacent partsv of the guard or prevent or obviate, to a major degree, accidental cutting of the skin in shaving operarazor of the class specified with a shim or spacing member disposed between the blade and the guard to provide a clearance space for the lather between the blade and guard and also to facilitate the depression of the corner portions ofthe blade; and with the these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, efiicient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed; The invention is fully disclosed the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of a razor made according to my invention. In practice, the side edges 11a, instead of being straight as in other devices of. this class are arc-shaped in form when viewed at either side edge of the device, the curvature of oneside edge being indicated at 11?; in Fig. 2 of the drawing. By virtue of this construction, the blade 12 or the cutting edges 12a thereof may be supported and reinforced in the areshaped position shown in order to provide a greater clearance between the cutting edges 12a and the guard centrally of the side edges of the razor than at the end or corner portions thereof, thus providing a better cutting edge at the central portion of the side edges of the razor and permitting the free passage of the lather beneath the razor blade. To insurethe support of the blade 12 in th manner above described, I employ a spacing tween the lower face of the blade '12 and the -'guard 10, the shim being preferably of the general form seen in detail in Fig. 4 of the drawing, the corner portions 18 thereof being cut away in order to permit the corner portions of the cap 11 to engage and depress the corresponding corner portions of the blade 12 at the cutting edges 12a thereof in flexing the blade into arc-shaped formation and in rigidly supporting the blade in this position, it being understood that the blade is backed by the cap 11. It is also preferred that the side edges 19 of the shim 17 be cut out at intervals as seen at 20 to provide clearance spaces for the lather in the operation of shaving. Said shim is provided with a central aperture 21 through which the threaded pin 14 passes and with other apertures 22 at opposite sides of the aperture 21 through which the guide pins 15 are free to pass.

It will be understood that the thickness of the shim 17 will to a degree, govern the spacing of the cutting edges 12a of, the blade with respect to the guard as will also the contour 11?) at the side edges 11a of the cap 11, and

these may be arranged to provide the most 1 effective shaving operations suitable for beards of various kinds.

It will be understood that while I have shown my invention as applied toa razor of i specific construction that my inventlon 18 not necessarilylimited in this respect, and var1- ous changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims. without'departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 2-- j 1. A safety razor having a guard, a cap movable with respect to the guard and a blade arranged between the guard and cap, means for flexing the corner portions of the cutting edge of the blade to arrange said cutting edge in a curved path to space the centralportion of the cutting edge a greater. distance from the guard centrally thereof than'at the end portions of the blade, the edge of the cap engaging said blade being fashioned to conform with the flexed curvature of the blade, and

' said means comprising a shim disposed between the guard and blade, the corner portions of said shim being removed to permit the fiexure of the corner portions ofthe blade in securing the same in position.

2. A safety razor having a guard, a capmovable with respect to the guard and a blade arranged between the guard and cap, means for flexing the corner portions of the cutting edge of the blade to arrange said cutting edge in a curved pathto space the central portion of the cutting edge a greater distance from the guard centrally thereof than at the end portions, of the blade, the edge of the cap engaging said blade being fashioned to conform with the flexed curvature of the blade, said means comprising a shim disposed between the guard and blade, the corner portions of said shim being removed to permit 3. A spacing shim for safety razors of the class described comprising an elongated body of thin sheet material, said body being apertured to key the same with respect to parts of the razor blade holder and the corner portions of said shim being removed to form concaved corner edges, the transverse dimensions of said shim being substantially the same as the blade of the razor, and opposite side edges of said shim having spaced recesses.

A safety razor having a guard provided with straight side edges, a cap movable with respect to the guard and a blade adapted to be arranged between the guard and cap, the corner portions at the side edges of said cap being lower than the central portion of said side edges, and means dis osed beneath the blade whereby in moving t e cap toward the guard,the corner portions of. said cap will depress the, corner portions of the blade to flex the cutting edge thereof in a curved path, disposing the central portion of the cutting edges of the blade at greater distance from the guard centrally thereof than at the corner portions. r

A safety razor having a guard provided with straight side edges, a cap movable with respect tothe guard and a blade adapted to be arranged between the guard and cap, the corner portions at the side edges of said cap being lower than the central portion of said side edges, means disposed beneath the blade whereby in moving the cap toward the guard, the corner portions of said cap will depress the corner portions of the blade to flex the cutting edge thereof in a curved path disposing the central portion of the cutting edges of the blade a greater distance from the guard centrally thereof than at the corner portions, and the side edges of the cap conforming with the curved flexure of the cuttingedge of the blade to form a substantially rigid backing for the cutting edges of the blade.

'6. A safety razor having a guard provided with straight side edges, a cap movable with respect to the guard and a blade adapted to be arranged between the guard and cap, the

corner portions at the side edges of said cap the corner portions of the blade to flex the cutting edge thereof in a curved path, disposing the central portion of the cutting edges of the blade a greater distance from the guard centrally thereof than at the corner portions, and said means comprising an elongated plate, the corner portions of which are removed, permitting the depression of the corner portions of said blade.
