This invention relates to button tabs for wearing apparel and more particularly to certain improvements in attachments for suspenders to trousers.

In the manufacture of trousers designed for use with a belt, the trousers are cut lower in the back and waist than when the trousers are intended for use with suspenders, in which latter case the trousers are made higher in the waist and back. In view of changes in style and the present increasing popularity of suspenders, it is desirable to provide an effective means whereby trousers may have the lower cut and at the same time admit of suspender attachment at the same height of the wearer of the trousers as if the trousers were cut for use with suspenders; that is, with a high waist and back.

Among the objects of this invention is to provide an effective means whereby suspenders may be comfortably and conveniently employed with trousers that are cut with the customary low waist lines for use with a belt.

A more specific object of this invention is to attach to the waist-band of the trousers a tab with buttons thereon which will assume positions above the trousers when the tab is open or extended, thus admitting of the attachment of suspenders at places above the upper edge of the trousers, and which by flapping the tab inwardly and passing the buttons through the waist-band of the trousers outwardly, will impart to the trousers the same characteristic appearance as when the buttons are sewed directly to the waist-band while admitting the fastening of suspenders to the trousers at the waist line.

Other, further and more specific objects of this invention will become readily apparent to persons skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description when taken with the'accompanying drawings wherein:

Fig. 1 is an exterior fragmental view of a portion of the back of a pair of trousers, showing my novel tab in open position and the ends of suspenders fastened above the top of the trousers.

The trousers 1 are provided with-the ordinary belt straps 2 and also the buttonholes 3. Tabs leextend from the trousers, and when in the open position shown in Fig.1 the buttons 5 are above the trousers, thus permitting the fastening of suspenders .6 aboye the trousers. flapped in the position shown in Fig. 2, the buttons appear on the outside of the trousers and present practically the same appearance as if sewed directly to the trousers. In this position the suspenders can be fastened to the trousers'at the. waist-band.

It will be seen from this description and views that with my novel arrangement and construction trousers cut with a low waist line for belts can also be used with suspenders that are fastened with respect to the wearer at substantially the same position as with portion trousers having a high waist and back and especially designed for use with suspenders. Also, with my new construction and design the same trousers can be employed with either long or short suspenders and the need for carrying duplicate lines of long waisted and short waisted trousers as has been heretofore necessaryito meet the demands of persons using belts and those using suspenders is avoided.

Although in, my preferred construction lVhen the tabs are and design I make these tabs either integral with the waist-band of the trousers by extending same, or else fasten the tabs by sewing or stitching to the waist-band, it is to be understood that my invention is not limited in this respect, because clasps, buttons or other detachable fastenings may be employed for attaching the tab to the trousers, to meet the particular needs and fancies of the maker and user. Also, in lieu of the two tabs, a single tab may be employed with more than one of the buttons sewed thereon for the suspenders, and if desired these tabs may be made of different shapes and co-extensive with such portion of the Waist-band as desirable. My invention also contemplates the use of these tabs in the front and at the sides as well as in the back. Also, although I prefer to make these tabs of substantially the same material as the trousers, nevertheless, if desired other material may be employed instead.

In the preferred and specific embodiment of my invention, I have applied same to trousers but it is to be understood that my invention is not limited thereto but may be ap lied to other wearing apparel.

n the construction shown herein the buttons 5 are on the inside of the tab when in open position and appear on the outside of the trousers when the tab is fiapped against the inside Waist-band. However, the tab 4 may be made with an outer facing of the same material as the trousers and with the buttons appearing on the outside of the tab when in open position so that when the tab is fiapped against the outside waist-band of the trousers the buttons will pass through the buttonholes 3 from the outside and appear on the inside of the trousers, and if desired suspenders may be fastened to the inside of the trousers by the buttons in this position. 'ith this latter arrangement, the tab when flapped against the outside waist-band of the trousers may be made to serve as a tunnel for a belt so as to dispense with some or all of the straps 2.

The present invention is not limited to the specific details set forth in the foregoing examples which should be construed as illustrative and not by way of limitation, and in view of the numerous modifications which may be effected therein without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention, it is desired that only such limitations be imposed as are indicated in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. In combination, trousers having a tab for fastening suspenders to the trousers, a buttonhole through said trousers below the projecting portion of said tab, said tab being attached to the waist-band of the trousers and having a button adapted to assume a position above the trousers when the tab is open and to button outwardly through the but-
