Description

P Y 1931- J. AMATO I 1,801,253
POWDER DISPENSER Filed Feb. 21, 1930 INVENTOR ?V/ 6 JIM/Y To BY 1 ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 21 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE IRVING J. AMATO, OF PITTSFIELI), MASSACHUSETTS, 'A SSIGNO R OF ONE ITA LF '10 EDWARD F. FAI-IEY, OF PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS POWDER DISPENSER Application filed February 21, Z1930. :SeriaLNo. 430,424.
My invention consists in the combination of a powder dispenser comprising a barrel closed at its lower end and perforated with a plurality of small holes, also in combination a powder pulverizer enclosed within the 1, 16 vide a powder dispenser that will sift out the powder and not spray the same. Most of the spray materials are poisonous and are d1sagreeable in nature, and when sprayed are also more or less dangerous to the operator 7 of the spraying device.
My invention may be used for varied purposes, such as sifting powder on plants, vines or trees, and also in the house or home as an insect destroyer.
;- This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter specifically described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and set 1 forth in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference designate llke parts in the several figures:
Figure 1 is a side View.
.3 Figure 2 is a side sectional view.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the barrel and pulverizer.
Figure 4 is an end view of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a view of a modified form of 7 my invention.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a powder receptacle which is preferably of cylindrical shape with a suitable cover 2 and a handle 3. A'barrel 4 is also preferably of i cylindrical shape, and extends from the powder receptacle 1 and is attached thereto. The lower end of the barrel 4 is closed by means of the cover 5 which is attached thereto. The lower end of the barrel is perforated with several small holes 6 to allow the powder inthe'barrel to sift'therethrough.
A ferrule 7 seats over'theb'arrel and is'free to move up and downan'd around the barrel, and this ferrule' providesthe'means to close the perfora'ted'holes' 6, bym'oving the ferrule along'the'barrel'a'ndin contactwiththe cover '5 whenthe'jpowder "di'spenseris not in use.
A powderpulverizer'8'fits within the barrel with a small clearance between the barrel and the powder pulverizer as indiso .cate'd bythe numeral .16. Thejpowder pulverizer is open atthelowe'rend and is'provided with 'aipluralitybf holes 9 aroundthe circumference;
To facilitateth'e pulveri'zin'g' ofthe'powder within the lower'end "o'f thebarr'e'l 4 the perfora'ted holes"9 may be so perforated'with a small burr on the outer 'side of the holes. Thejtop ofthe'powder Ipulverizer8 is also jpr'ovided' with aplura'lity of holes 10 to provi'd'e means toallow powdercoming from the powder receptacle 1,'through the barrel 4,to "enter "the; inside of the powder pulverizer 8.
p A powderjpulverizerrod "11 extends from the powder pulverizer 8 along theinside of the'b'a'rrel 4and through t'he'cover'2 ofthe powder'receptacle. The top ofthe 'powder pulverizer rod 11 is provided witha handle bar 12'secured thereto bymeansof a nut 13, andahandle 14 is 'fastene'd'tothe handlebar so 12 bfyfme'ans of a rivet or pin "15.
In'Figure; 5 I'have'shown a modified'form of'miyinvention in'which the'ba'rrel '4-isopen "at the top and {provided with a plug 17 throughwhich the powderpulve'rizer rod 11 extends, and instead of the usual "handle 14,
'a'ssh'own in Figures 2 and3, a knob 18 is attached thereto for operating the device.
The operation of the invention is as folloWs: The powder receptacle 4 is filled with powdenthenthe ferrule 7 is moved: along'the barreL4 sothatthe perforated holes6 are open and exposed. The barrel 4 is placed in a depending position, and by rotating the handle 14 ortheknob 18,-the powderis sifted through'theperforated holes'9 inthe powder. pulverizer '8, ground and sifted through the perforated'holesfiin-the barrel 4.
'1. Adevice oftheclass described comprising a powder receptacle, a barrel extending from the powder receptacle having a perforated end, a ferrule adapted to fit over said perforated end, a powder pulverizer within rel provided with holes around the circumference provided with projecting rims and holes in the top, a pulverizer rod connected with the powder pulverizer for rotating the same.
said barrel, a pulverizer rod connected with the powder pulverizer for rotating the same.
2. A device of the class described comprising a powder receptacle, a barrel extending from the powder receptacle and closed at the outer end, said barrel having perforations located at an appreciable distance from the end, a ferrule adapted to fit over said perforated end, a powder pulverizer within said barrel, a pulverizer rod connected with the powder pulverizer for rotating the same.
3 A device of the class described comprising a powder receptacle, a cover I for the powderreceptacle, a barrel extending from the powder receptacle and connected thereto,
said barrel having perforations located at an appreciable distance from the end, a'ferrule adaptedto fit over said perforated end to provide means to close and open said perforations, a powder pulverizer located within said barrel, a pulverizer rod connected with the powder pulverizer which rod passes through the cover having a handle at its outer end for rotating said powder pulverizer. p
,7 4. Akdevice of the class described comprising a powder receptacle having a cover, a
barrel extending from the powder receptacle having perforations located at an appreciable distance from the end, a ferruleadapted to fit over said perforations to provide means Q to open and close the same, a powder pulver- 4 izer open at one end with holes around the, ,circumference provided with projecting rims and holes inthe top, a pulverizer rod connected with the powder pulverizer which rod,
0 passes through the coverhaving a handle at its outer end for rotating the said powder pulverizer. v V
5. A device of the class described comprising a powder receptacle, a barrel extending from the powder receptacle having a perforated end, a ferrule adapted to fit over said perforated end, a powder pulverizeriwithin said barrel and having holes around the circumference provided with projecting rims andholes in the top, a pulverizer rod connected withthe powder pulverizer for rotating the same. i
a 6, A powder dispenser comprising a barrel closed at one end with perforations located at an appreciable distance from said end, a.
ferrule adapted to fit over said perforated s end, a powder pulverizer within said barrel, a' pulverizer rod connected with the powder pulverizer for rotating the same.
a 7. A powder dispenser comprising a barrel closed at one end with perforations located 7 at an appreciable distance from said end, a ferrule adapted to fit over said perforated end to provide means to close and open said perfo rations, a powder pulverizer within said bar- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
