BOTTLE SUPPORT Filed Aug. 14, 1929 u ww Patented Apr. 7, 1931 arras OSCAR BOTO SCHELLBERG, OF-NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE SUPPORT Application :filed August 14, v17929. Serial No. 385,739.
This invention relates to improvements in bottle supports, and more particularly to a stopper for a pivotally supported carafe or bottle.
An object of the invention is to provide a closure member for bottles which will be operatively connected with a pivotally supported carafe or bottle to automatically uncover the same when the bottle is tilted and to cover the bott-le when it again assumes a Vertical position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined supporting stand and an automatically operable cover for a carafe or bottle which will be pivotally held in -said stand, and so arranged that the cover will be unseated from the bottle when th-e same is tilted, and will reseat when the bottle assumes its normal vertical position.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
Drawings:
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved bottle stand and automatically operable cover, and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
Description In carrying out my invention, I provide stationary supporting standards 1 and 3 secured to a suitable support 2, the standard 3 extends upwardly, the purpose of which will later be described.
A carafe or bottle 4 is supported in a cradle having crossed bottom pieces 5, one f which is provided with the short upstanding portions 6, and the other forming the upwardly extending straps 7. The straps 7 are fixed to a split collar 8, surrounding the bottle .4,
which is provided with the thumb-screw 9 for tightening the collar upon the bott-le. y
The collar 8 is also provided with the laterally extending pintles or gudgeons 10 adapted to be mounted in bearings in the standards 1 and 3. One of the pintles carries a lever 11 to which is attached aconnecting rod 12 which operatively connects the lever 11 and short arm of lever 13. The lever 13 is pivotally supported at the end of the arm 3 and its long arm is connected by means ofa bolt 14 to the stopper cover 15.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that when the bottle is in its natural vertical position, the cover will be tightly closed thereon, and that when the bottle is tilted out of its vertical position, the cover will be automatically unseated, and that when the bottle is released to permit it to be returned to its vertical position, by reason of gravity, the stopper will again seat thereon.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A bottle support comprising a pivotally suspended cradle having an eXpansible retaining band adapted to surround a bottle when disposed in said cradle; means connected with said band for tightening the same on said bottle; standards for said cradle rigidly mounted upon a standing structure and adapted to pivotally support said cradle above the center of gravity of the bottle supported by said cradle; a covering member for said bottle having a supporting arm therefor; means for pivotally mounting said arm on one of said standards to provide a relatively short extension of said arm at the outer side of the standard; a lever iixedly connected with said cradle to rock therewith when the same is moved from its normal vert-ical position; and means connecting said short extension of said arm and said lever whereby the movement of said lever rocks said arm to lift and depress said cover above and upon said bottle in accordance with the movement of said cradle.
2. A bottle support comprising a pivotally suspended cradle having an eXpansible retaining band adapted to surround a bottle when disposed in said cradle; means connected with said band for tightening the same on said bottle; standards for said cradle rigidly mounted upon a standing structure and adapted to pivotally support said cradle above the center of gravity of the bottle supported by said cradle; a covering member for said bottle having a supporting arm therefor; means for pivotally mounting said arm on one of said standards to provide a relatively short extension of said arm at the outer side of the standard; a lever ixedly conm nected with said cradle to rock therewith When the same is moved from its normal vertical position; means connecting said short extension of said arm and said lever whereby the movement of said lever rocks said arm to lift and depress said cover above and upon said bottle in accordance With the movement of said Cradle; and means provided on said lever for adjusting its Working position on said cradle. O. BOTO SCHELLBERG.
