CIGARETTE DISPENSER Filed NOV. 15, 1929 Patented Mar. 31, 1931 UNITED STATES JOSEPH N. M. KEYZER, OFMIAMI, FLORIDA A CIGARETTE DISPENSER Application led November 15, 1929. VSerial No. 407,463.
rIhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in dispensing devices, and particularly to devices for dispensing elongated aillsicles such as cigarettes, matches, and the li e.
One object of the invention is to provide a device for dispensing articles such as cigarettes, which will be simple in construction, and which may bc manufactured at a low cost.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which may be easily operated whereby to deliver a single cigarette at a time, and wherein the cigarette is delivered in a convenient position to be taken by the smoker.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cigarette dispenser made in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 1, the frame being shown swung back, in full lines, and in normal position, in dotted lines.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a hopper which is adapted to contain a quantity of cigarettes, as shown at 11. In the upper end of the rear wall of the hopper there is formed an opening 12, which is adapted to receive a fastening device (not shown), by which the device may be suspended on a support, such as a wall. The bottom of the hopper has a rear portion 13, which inclines downwardly and forwardly to deliver cigarettes into the vertical transverse chamber 14. Stamped outwardly from the upper portion of each side wall of the hopper is a boss 15, which is received in the opening 16 formed in the upper end of the arm 17, of the swinging delivering frame 18. This frame moves backwardly and forwardly beneath the lower open end of the chamber 14, and has a transverse trough 19 in its for- -the front of the hopper.
ward portion for receiving a cigarette from the hopper, when said frame is swung rearwardly, as will be apparent from an inspection of figures in the drawing. On the intermediate portion of the rear wall of the chamber 14 are the apertured ears 20 in which is held the intermediate portion of the leaf spring 21. The opposite ends of the spring 21 are slidably held in apertured lugs 22 carried by the opposite ends of the rear of the swinging frame 18. It will be particularly noted that the upper edge of the forward wall of the cigarette trough 19 rises a short distance above the lower edge of the front wall of the hopper, whereby to limit the rearward swinging moveinentof said frame to a position where the trough is properly disposed beneath the hopper to receive a cigarette therefrom. It will also be noted that the rear portion of the frame 18 normally lies beneath the lower open end of the chamber 14, whereby to effectively prevent escape of any of the cigarettes from the hopper, when the parts are in normal position.
In the operation of the device, the parts are in normal position, as shown in Figure 3, of the drawing. The operator places his finger against the outer end of the swinging frame and presses same inwardly until the front wall of the cigarette trough contacts with the front wall of the hopper. Acigarette from the chamber 14 yfalls into the trough, whereupon the operator releases the frame, so that the leaf spring restores the same to its normal position, with the trough exposed at It will be noted that the front wall of the trough 19 has a central opening, of cutaway 23, which exposes the central portion of the cigarette so that the smoker may readily grasp the same, and remove it from the trough.
It will be noted that the hopper is formed from a single piece of material, and that the swinging frame is also formed from a single piece of material'.
What is claimed is: y
A cigarette dispenser comprising a hopper, a transverse discharging neck in the bottom thereof, a yoke pivotally supported on the hopper for swinging movement beneath said neck, the lower portion of the yoke having a transverse Wall adapted to engage the neck to limit the movement of the yoke in one direction, yieldable means between the neck and said Wall for urging the yoke into position against said neck, cigarette supporting means onthe lower- .portion ofthe yoke non,M mally lying in `front ofthe neck andhaving a;
central opening to permit grasping the cigarette supported thereby, and lips on the cigarette supporting' means? for engztgiiig` the front of the neck to limit the swinging move-Y ment of the yoke in the other direction.
