Description

March 17, 1931. R. c. HUNTLEY 1,796,949
ADJUSTABLE CHAIR Filed Feb. 27, 1929 INVENTOR V 11 15 T7 Z fizz/110W 6. flaw/k7 BY z a i wi s v- T' Patented Mar. 1 Y, .1931
dTATfiS PATENT OFFICE REGINALD G. HUNTLEY,
CHAIR COMPAZFI, OF STURGIS, MICHIGAN ADJUSTABLE CHAIR Application filed February 27, 1829. .Serial No. 343,232.
The main object of this invention is to provide an adjustable chair which has a wide range of adjustment and may be quickly adj usted to the particular requirements or com fort of the user.
Objects pertaining to details and econom es of my invention will deli; itely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims.
A chair embodying the features of my invention is olee ly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a chair embodying the features of my invention.
1. 2 is a detail elevation showing the adjusted to one position by full lines 0 another position by dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a detail section on a line correcompanying drawing the pedestal designated generally by the numeral 1 is preferably that of my application for Letters Patent filed concurrently herewith. As the particular details of the pedestal form no part of this application they are not illustrated herein.
The seat 2 is supported by the spindle 3. The spindle also carries a rearwardly projecting armdike bracket 4 having a clamp men'iber 5 at its outer end, the face of this clamp member being serrated. The back 6 is yieldingly mounted on the upper end of the back supporting bar 7 This bar is preferably bowed rearwardly as illustrated.
The back is provided with rearwardly projecting pivot ears 8 of substantial length enged by the bolt 9, the winged clamping nut being provided for clamping the back in its adjusted positions so that it is tiltingly supported. 7
The lower end of the bar 7 is provided with a clamp member 11 having a serrated face coacting with a clamp member 12 having a se rated face formed on the rear end of the link or arm 13. At its front end the link or arm 13 is provided with a clamp member 14 serrated to coact with the serrated clamp member 5.
The clamping bolts 15 are provided with clamping nuts 16 provided with hand pieces 17 of substantial size so conveniently grasped to the clamps.
The link 13, it will be noted, is mounted for pivotal adjustment in a vertical plane the armor back bar 7 being pivotally mounted on this supporting link. This permits the vertical adjustment of the back 6 throughout a considerable range and its horizontal adjustment is effected by adjusting the back bar on its pivot. As stated, the back is pivotally or tiltingly adjusted on the back bar so that it may be readily adjusted to present its face at the desired angle according to the position of the arm or back bar 7.
I thus provide a structure having a wide range of adjustment and one which is easily adjusted to the requirements of the particular user.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a chair, the combination with a seat, of a back supporting bar provided with a serrated clamping member at its lower end, back mounted on said supporting bar for tilting adjustment, a back supporting bracket projecting rearwardly below said seat and provided with a serrated clamp member, a back supporting link having serrated clamp members at its ends coacting with the clamp members of said bracket and back bar, and clamping bolts for said clamp members provided with nuts having hand wheels.
2. In a chair, the combination with a seat, of a back provided with a supporting bar provided with a clamping member at its that they may be tighten or loosen lower end a back su )ortin bracket projecting rearwardly below said seat and provided with a clamp member, a back supporting link having clamp members at its ends coacting with the clamp members of said bracket and back bar, and clamping bolts for said clamp members.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
REGINALD C. HUNTLEY.
