A The invention described herein may be manufactured and'used by or for the Government for governmental purposes, without the 4payment to me of any royaltythereon. s This invention relates to improvements in a i type bed and support.
' The principal object of the invention is to.
provide a support for the safe and rapid handling of containers of explosives while markin ing them with printed characters.V
j lVit-hthe foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novelarrangement and combination ofparts and in ,the details of construction hereinafter de- "is scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodimeiitof the 111-' vention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit'of the invention. y A practical embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying dra-wings, wherein; 1 Fig. 1 is a plan view of the support#V Fig. 2 is a view in end elevation thereof;
Figs. 3 and 4': are detailed sectional views on the respective lines of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention there is provided a support which consists of a platform 22H or table 5, whose upper surface is covered by a resilientl pad 6, preferably of rubber. The pad is confined at Veach end of the table by means of a rigid' plate 7 which projects slightly above the pad for the'purpose of bet- .i. ter protecting the margin thereof.y The extremities of the plates also extend beyond the sides of the table and in each of such extended portions 8 there is firmly secured a block '9` formed with an aperture 10 disposed parallel' l j Va 'resilient work-supporting covering there 90 on, rigid end plates on the supportconning :c with the Vsides of the table.
A rod 11 is mounted in the apertures of each pair of opposite blocks and conveniently secured by means of set screws 12. The spaced rods serve to carry any required number of type holders 18 of similar construction. vEach of the holders consists of abar, U-sh'aped in cross section, and having fixed at each end a pair of spaced blocks 14 between which is received the tongue 15 of a carrier 16, slidably mounted on the rod. The carrier may be held in fixed position by means of a set screw 17. The' type 18 which is placed'in the holderand resilie'ntly held thereby is of a. commercial design. V
Before commencing the operation of stamp ing, the type holders are adjusted to a position determined by the arrangement of the markings for the particular class of articles to be stamped. ln placing the varticle on the table, one edge may abut against the end plate which serves as a distance gage with `respectto'the type holders `andthe article is VVthen lowered on to the type holders, pressure being exerted to insure the impress ofa clear y andlegible marlringlV By a pract i cal contin-` across the table and removed. I claim: A Y Y 1. A printing table embodying a support,
nous rolling operationthe article is advanced"w Y Y `a resilient` work-supporting covering thereon, rigid endplates on thesupport confining the covering and projecting above the same, rodsniounted on the opposed extremities of the'end plates, carriers slidabl'eon the rods and having tongues directed'towards the sup- 75 port, a isi-shaped bardisposed transversely of the table and spaced blocks in each` extremity ,n of the bar receiving the tongueV ofa carrier.
2. A'printing-'table embodying a support,
a .resilient work-supporting covering thereon,
rigid end plates on the support confining the covering, rods mountedon the opposed extremities of the end plates, carriers slidable on the rods and having tongues directed towards the support, a U-shaped bar disposed'v g5 transversely of the table and spacedV blocks in each extremity of the bar receiving the tongue of a carrier. v
. 3. -printing table embodying a support,
posite carriers.
