Description

UI'rE HENRY RAUSGHOUSAN, OF GORNWALL,QOANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-WICK ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,346, dated J une 27, 1876, application filed May 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, HENRY RAUSOHOUSAN, of Cornwall, Stormont county, Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved LampWick Attachment, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents my improved attachment applied to a lamp-wick. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same taken through the line X K, Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the attachment, shown opened.
Similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to furnish an improved device for attaching the ornamental false wick to the regular wick, so that the oil can all be consumed when the regular wick gets short, lessening the risk of explosion when the wick gets short or fits badly, and the oil gets low, and rendering it unnecessary to refill the lamp so often.
My invention consists in the clamp formed of the two plates, hinged to each other at one end,and provided with teeth upon their alternate side edges, to adapt it to connect and hold the adjacent ends of two Wicks, as hereinafter fully described.
111 the annexed drawing, A represents the regular or burning wick, and B represents the ornamental or feed wick. O is the device by which the end of the wick Bis connected with the end of the wick A. The device 0 consists of two plates which are hinged to each other at one end, and the other ends of which overlap and are fastened together by a projection upon one end and a recess or hole upon the other end, as shown in Fig. 3. The ends of the two plates are bent inwardly, so as to leave enough space between the said plates to receive the two wicks without clamping them so tightly as to impede the passage of the oil. The plates 0 have inweirdly-projecting teeth upon their alternate side edges to enter the wicks A B and keep them from slipping out of the said clamp C. With this construction the wick B will act as a feeder to the wick A, and will keep it supplied with oil, so that it can be burned until its lower end reaches the burner, enabling all the oil in the lamp to be burned up, and preventing'any danger from explosion from the wick burning down into the burner, when the oil gets below the end of the burning wick.
Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The clamp O,fo.rmed of the two plateshinged to each other at one end, and provided with teeth upon their alternate side edges, to adapt it to connect and hold the adjacent ends of two wicks, substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY RAUSCHOUSAN.
