IsAAo A. BAUM, on
nooRFRAi/In Y Application inea April 1s,
My invention relates to building construction and particularly to a novel form of door :trame or buck.
An object of my invention is to provide a metal buck or frameof generally channel shape so arranged that the flanges ofV the channel lie alongsidev of and closely engage the respective sides of atile or otherrmasonry wall, the member providing means for mounting wood blocks therein to which the usual trim may be attached. This result issecured by forming cutout areas in the web of the channel and holding within the channel by welding or otherwise a cross member also of metal. The cross member serves the doublev purpose of tying together the flanges of the channel at a point midway in their depth, and outlining or delining a pocket or space within which a wood block is secured.
This construction insures a rigid and highly desirable form of mounting for wood trim and enables the use of a channel of black or blue iron while the exposed portion constituting a plaster terminal may be of galvanized Jform adapting it to receive paint.
The construction will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a Vcorner portion of a buck built according to my invention;
F ig. 2 is a sectional view somewhat enlarged on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the buck.
In the drawings I have illustrated a buck or llangemember of generally channel shape having a web 10 and side flanges 11. At intervals lin the height of the buck Iprovide cutout areas 12 in the web, the cutout areas being of substantial size corresponding to the size of wood blocks 13. This provides a relatively large exposed area of wood so that the workman will have little dil'ficulty in nailing the j amb indicated at 14, thereto. Y
As a means for tying together the llanges of the channel and for delining a space within which the block is received, I mount a U-shaped plate 15 at a point opposite the cutout areas. The end portions 16 of the vgagement with a side frame.
19.29.V serial No. 356,147.
U-shaped member are welded tothe flanges of the channel. This provides a partially enclosed space to receive thev wood block which? is held in place by means of nails 17 extending thru the plate 15 into the wood.
The buck is mounted in the vposition shown in'Fig. 2 with the flanges lying alongside of a masonrywall 18. .An anchor 19 is embed? ded inthe wall, the hooked ends engaging in apertures formed by striking out the loops 19vwhich serve as plaster anchors for'the plaster 20. A plaster terminall of generally L-shape is provided, ,the base 21 of the ter- `ininalpbeing welded to the,` outer face of the channel flange. The perpendicular `portion 22 has a rebent margin 23 and the entire plaster Ytermina-l is formed of` galvanized metal adapting it to receive paint. Thus the portion ofthe'buck constituting the bulk of the weight may be formed of less expensive metal than the plaster terminal portion, the latter being the only portion that is exposed.4
The corner connection shown in Fig. 1 may cHIcAGo, ILLINOIS Y be of any desired construction; It preferably comprises an angle plate, one leg 24 of which is welded to the head piece of the buck while the other leg 25 hasan inter-fitting en- This angle plate likewise is provided with plaster anchor loops 26.
Obviously the construction is capable of some modication and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a channel buckor frame with the flanges of the channel projecting rearwardly to lie alongside a wall, the web of the channel having a cutout area, and aplate spanning the space between the flanges and secured thereto for tying together the said flanges and for forming with the flanges a partially enclosed space to receive a wood block to which trim may be attached` thru said cutout area.
2. In combination, a metal buck of channel shape in cross section and adapted to be mounted with the flanges lying alongside of a wall, the web of the buck being cut out at spaced intervals, plates secured to the inside SCM faces of the channel at points opposite the cutout portions and spaced rearwardly from the web to provide a pocket for a wood block, one face of which is exposed at the cutout portion, said plate serving also to tie together the flanges at a point intermediate their depth. Y
3. In combination a metal buck of channel shape in cross section and adapted to be mounted with the flanges lying alongside of a wall,Y the web of the buck being cut out at spaced intervals, plates secured to the inside faces of the channel at points opposite the cutout portions and spaced rearwardly from the web to provide a pocket for a Woodblock, one face of which is exposed at the cutout portion, said plate serving also to tie together the flanges at a point intermediate their depth, and plaster terminal strips secured to the outer faces of the flanges. y
fl. n combination a metal buck of channel shape in cross section and adapted to be mounted with the flanges lying alongside of a wall, the web of the buck being out out at spaced intervals, plates secured to the inside faces of the channel at points opposite the cutout portions and spaced rearwardly from the web to provide a pocket for a wood block, one face of which is exposed at the cutout portion7 said plate serving also to tie to- `giether the flanges at a point intermediate their depth, plaster terminal strips welded to the outer faces of the flanges and wood trim secured to wood blocks within said channel and abutting said plaster terminals.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
ISAAC A. BAUM.
