The object of thisinvention is to provide anew and improved packing case made of paper product or more especially ofdouble faced corrugated board.

Another object is to make a packing case that will pack the articlevcontained therein and hold it in suspension and in which the article packed and the packing case can be more easilybrought togetherr i I These and other objects will be illustrated in the drawings, described in the specification and pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank which is scored to make four walls, each of which walls are provided with pads.

Figure 2 is a. perspective view of a box in which the blank shown in Figure 1 is placed. The inner cover of the box is shown removed.

In the drawings reference numeral 1 indicates the blank which is scored at 2, 3, 4 i0 and 5 so that it can be bent on the lines so marked to form the walls '6, 7, 8 and 9, the walls 9 being each half the length of the wall 7 of which they are the equivalent. The ends of the wall 9 will come together to 45 form a butt oint, the two parts forming one inside of the box 18 for which box it forms an inner wall making a reinforced'or double wall therefor. The box is provided with an inner bottom wall 19 that is provided with a cushion 20 which is placed in the box first and the blank 1 is then folded around the article to be packed and the article and the blank are then p'uttoge'ther into the lOOX'18. The cover 21 is then put on top of the article. This cover is provided with the cushion pads 22 and 23, and are shown in vertical section in Figure 3. These pads stop short of the edges of the wall 21. The

box 18 is provided withcover flaps 24, 25,

26 and 27 which are folded in and sealed into place thus securelyclosing the box and locking contents and packing therein. When completely assembled, this box has open air spaces at allcorners and at'all edges so that thebox can be-crushed in at any corner or along any edge for a considerable' distance withoutany damage being done to the contents of the box. The box can also receive a shock or blow without the shock or blow I being communicated to the contents of the box.

In Figure 5 T have shown a modified form in which the blank 1 is made somewhat diff ferently. In Figure 5 the box 30 is provided with a reinforcing bottom 31 which carries four cushions thereon 32, 33, 34 and 35. This bottom is placed in the box first. At each "end of the box is provided a blank 36 which has a middle wall 37 and end walls 38 and 39 all formed irom a single sheet suitably scored.

The wall 37 is provided with cushion pads 40 endil at the top. The box is provided with cover flaps 50, 51, and 53 which are turned in and sealed so as to close the box and lock within it the contents and packing material therefor.

The blank and the walls formed therefrom V and the box in which it is enclosed are adapted in each case to the shape of the article to be packed thereby.

I claim:

1. A blank having a score line thereon on which it is adapted to be folded, said blank having cushion pads thereon on each side of said score line and separated therefrom by an air space, said blank being adapted to fit in a box with its score line in the corner of the box and the cushion pads extending toward the middle of the box on either side of the score line, said cushion pads being rectangular in longitudinal and transverse section and being built up of a series of flat laminations spaced apart and corrugated laminations between them, each corrugated lamination being corrugated with small corrugations.

2. A blank having two score lines thereon on which it is adapted to be folded, said blank having cushion pads thereon on each side of said score lines, and separated therefrom by an air space, said blank being adapted to fit in the end of a box with its score lines in the corners of the box and with its cushion pads extending out into the box from three sides of the box, said cushion pads being rectangular in longitudinal and transverse section and being built up of a series of flat laminations spaced apart and corrugated laminations between them, each corrugated lamination being corrugated with small corrugations.

3. A blank having a score line thereon on which it is adapted to be folded and which is adapted to fit into the corner of a box, a cushion pad on said blank on one side of said score line and separated from it by an air space, said pad extending out into the box and being held in a predetern'iined position in the box of the blank and by the article packed in the box, said cushion pads being rectangular in longitudinal and transverse section and bea ing built up of a series of flat laminations spaced apart and corrugated laminations between them, each corrugated lamination being corrugated with small corrugations.

i. A blank having a score line thereon on which it is adapted to be folded, said blank having cushion pads thereon on each side of said score line and separated therefrom by an air space, said blank being adapted to fit in a box with its score line in the corner of the box and the cushion pads extending toward the middle of the box on either side of the score line, said blank stopping short of the top of the box, an inner wall adapted to rest on the edge of said blank, said wall having pads thereon that are adapted to make contact with the cover of the box and fix an air space between the wall and the cover.
