Still a further object is to provide a latch j which, when applied to a sliding door, will have a tendency to engage more firmly in an I eye which is secured to the frame of the dooi n Still a further object'is to provide such a I latch which can be secured to the door in po sition to, move by gravity to a position where no parts of the device project beyond the edge of the door when the door is unlatched.
Still a further object is to provide means on the latch for utilizing a padlock for looking the latchagainstbeing opened. With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the I construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of mydevice, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more 1 fully set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: I

On the accompanying drawings I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate a supporting bar. The supporting bar 10 is formed with a pair of openings 12 for the purpose of receiving screws orboltswhereby the supporting bar :is secured to a door ora door frame. Pivotally mounted on the supporting bar 10 is a latch bar 18. The latchbar 18 is rotatably mounted on arivet or the like 20 which extends through both the supporting bar 10 and the latch bar 18. A door latch comprisingv a supporting bar, a latch bar of 'flatbar materialpivoted thereto, a notch insaid latch bar adjacent the end thereof, whereby a downwardly "extend.- ing' hook isiprovided, an eye-member for said hook, the side'o'f said notch farthest from the pivotal point of said latch bar being cut at an angle whereby .pnll on the latch bar tends to maintain the hook within said eye member and-a handle for said latchbar'bom prising a portion of the 'barbeyond saidhook redoubled upon andisecured to itself.
