This invention relates to highway guard fence fixtures, and has for its object to provide a very simple and durable fixture of this description and-one which may be readily applied to a post. 1
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application Figure 1' is a front View illustrating the improved fixture applied to a postthe latter beingbroken away- Figure 2 is a side elevation of the construction shown'at Figure 1 with the post broken away lengthwise Figure 3 is a section at the Figure 1- I Figure 4k is a section at the lineA- l of Flgure 3 V V p t Figure MS a detailed fron-t'view of the base portion of the fixture,'and
Figure 6 is a detailed broken view of the hook bolt. I r
Similar numerals of reference denote likeparts in the several figures of the drawing. 7
'1 is any suitable post, and 2 isthe base of line 3 of the fixture whose inner edges are conformed to the shape of the post, as clearly shown at Figure 3, and whose central portion is open,
as seen at '3 at Figure- 5, for the purpose of accommodating the hook bolt.
On opposite sides of this opening 3 the face 7 of the base portion 2 is provided with concave gutters or recesses 43 for the accommodation of the cable 5, as will be hereinafter ex-- r plained, and in the upper and lower-edges of the opening 3 are notches or gates 6.
7 is the bolt whereby the fixture is secured to the post, and thisbolt extends through the post and the projecting end is threadedwhile the other end of the bolt is formed into a hook shaped head 8 and from the outer face of this head projects a rib 9, which, when the fixture is properly installed, extends within the notches 6 so as to prevent any 45 lateral movement of the bolt and also for 1929, 1 Serial No. 403,857.

When the'parts are properly assembled.

Also, on the inner edge of this head are I 7 It is very important that the cable should slip-within the fixture when there is a violent impact against it but should not slip under an ordinary swiping contact, and it would never do for the cable to be strained inwardly by the excessive tightening of the nut 11, since this would make a sharp bend in the cable and would probably break some of the strands thereof, and'therefore the shoulders 10 are of such length .thatrthey will abut the base when the nut 11 has been operated to cause: the proper gripping of the cable.
It will therefore be understood that the length of these shoulders is predetermined by the size of the cable or fence strand since it is obvious that arcable ofcomparatively large diameter would necessitate shoulder portions that are normally closerto the base, while in the instance of a cable which has a comparatively small diameter, it would never do tohave the shoulders normally so close to thebase that they would What is claimed is contact the latterv before the cable was clamped.
1. A highway guard fence fixture, com 1 prising a post, a base having in its face an opening: and horizontally disposed grooves on opposite sides of said opening, the latter 8 having notches formed in its upper and lower edges, aboltl threaded on one end and passed through said opening and post and having a rib extending from the outer surfaceof its head and housed within said notches when the cable is clamped, the other end of said bolt having a hook-shaped head,
a cable embraced between said grooves and v head, and a nut driven on the threaded end of the bolt whereby the base is secured to the post and the cable clamped between 'said base and head. 7
2. A construction as in claim 1, further distinguished in that shoulders are provided on opposite sides of the bolt head which shoulders abut; the base whenaspredetermined degree 0t clampingiof'themable has 7 been effected.
In testimony whereof I, aflixmy signature hereto. I
