rrsn'nmmn's HAT'BAND Application led August 6, 1929. Serial No. 383,806.
My invention relates lto fishermens hat bandsI and more particularl to a hat band that may be secured aroun the crown and hat band of a hat that is worn by iishermen for the purpose of conveniently carrying certain articles of fishing equipment. The principal objects of the invention are to provide an adjustable hat band having means for securing same to a hat and with exterior means for carryinghooks with or without snells or leaders together with spring means for retaining the snells in outstretched positions and to provide interior transparent pocket means for carrying such articles as flies, leaders, hooks, a ishermans license and other equipment.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, adaptation, combination and arrangement ofy parts hereinafter described and claimed. These objects are accomplished by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings; wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the device in its installed position on a hat that is shown in dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a view in vertical section taken substantially on a broken line 2, 2 of Fig. 1 and showing the means for securing the band t-o the ordinary hat band;`
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective showing one of the cork blocks with a fly hook secured thereto;
Fig. 4 is a view in elevation showing the exterior arrangement of the device;
Fig. 5 is a similar view of a slightly modiiied form;
Fig. 6 is a view in elevation showing thea cloth or other fabric belting. Said band isv provided with a plurality of eyelets 6 at either end whereby it may be adjustably secured around hat crowns of various sizes by means of a lacing 7 as shown in Fig 1. As shown in Fig. 2, said band may be secured to the usual hat band 8 by means of a plurality of spring clips such as shown at 9.
The exterior of the band 5 is provided with a plurality of spaced apart cork blocks l0 that are normally disposed in an `upright position. A plurality of similar cork blocks 11 are disposed on said band in a horizontal position and same may be arranged as shown in Fig. 4 or las shown in the modified form in Fig. 5. Said blocks may be either fastened to said band by means of wire staples 12 as shown in Fig. 8 or they may be glued to said band as desired.
The cork blocks 10 and 11 are substantially three times as long as they are wideand are substantially triangular in` cross section as shown in Figs. 3, 7 and 8. Speciically, said blocks have a base 13 which engages the band, a side 14'at right angles to said band and into which the points of the fish hooks are secured, and a rounded back 15 against which the body or shank of the hook rests and is therebygprevented from projecting or protruding outwardly. Helical springs 16 are secured to the band in an upright position and in parallel spaced relationwith the cork blocks 10 and when hooks are caught in said blocks their snells or leaders.l may be ,caught in said springs whereby they are retained in an outstretched position as will be understood. The corks 11 are intended forhooks without snells.
The interior of the band 5 is provided with a plurality of pockets 17 that are made of celluloid or other transparent material and are stitched or otherwise secured to the inside of said band as shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 8. Said pockets are for use in carrying wet or dry iiies, leaders, hooks and other equipment and one of the pockets is intended for use in carrying the iishermans license.
It will now beapparent that I have pro-v vided a iishermans hat band embodying means for carrying all the necessary articles .of equipment used by fishermen.
Having thus described my invention, it being understood that minor changes may be resorted to in its construction without departing from its scope and spirit, what I 5 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A tsherm'ans hat band comprising a flexible belt-ing, means for adjusting the length of said band, means for securing said w band to an ordinary hat band, a plurality of i cork blocks secured to the exterior of said band in upright spaced positions, a plurality of similar cork blocks secured'to saidy band in a horizontal position, a plurality of hell L, ical springs secured to said band in arallel spaced relation vrelative to the'uprig it cdk blocks, and a plurality of transparent pockets for the interior of the-band. 2. AV ishermans hat band comprising a 20 flexible belting, means for adjusting the length of said band, means for securing said band to an ordinary hat band, a. plurality of cork blocks secured to the exterior of said band in upright spaced positions, a plurality 25 of similar cork blocks secured to said band in a horizontal position, all of said blocks substantially triangular in cross section With rounded backs, a plurality of helical springs secured to said band in .parallel 3c spaced relation with the upright cork blocks, and a plurality of transparent pockets for the interior of the band. In testimony whereof I atlx my si ature.
