An additional object of the invention embodies a deflector for the breather pipe fitting to prevent the drawing off of too much of the oil fumes or vapors whereby qualification of the carburetor adjustment will not be necessar a ll ith the above and other objects in view,
the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention as applied for use.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional View of the breather pipe connection and deflector and conduits.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates an air cleaner or filter of conventional form having an elbow fitting l1 disposed upon the discharge end thereof. The above construction does not form a part of the invention but is merely shown and will be referred to in the following description of the invention to bring about a better understanding of the exact employment and function of the present invention. In carrying out. the invention, I provide a T -couplin'g such as indicated at 12 having the vertical leg or depending portion 13 thereof extended or otherwise projected within the uppermost end of a breather pipe 14 upstanding from the crankcase 15 of the engine. One end of the horizontally dis- M posed portion of the T-coupling 12 is in turn so fitted inlike manner with the remaining end of the elbow ll and a flexible conduit 16 provldes the means of communication between the coupling and the air intake of the engine carburetor. The T-coupling not only procase to the carburetor and thence to the uppermost of the motor mechanisms unfed by the lubricant systemof the vehicle.
If the bore of the vertical leg 13 of the T-coupling 12 were left entirely open, too much vacuum or suction would be created through the breather pipe and lubricant in condensed form would be drawn through the flexible conduit, the carburetor and the combustion chambers of the engine. Lubricant in such state or consistency would qualify the carburetor adjustment and foul the spark plugs of the engine. To overcome this apparent difliculty, I provide a deflector in the nature of a sleeve 11 carried within the bore of the vertical leg 13 of the T-coupling 12 adjacent its point of communication with the interior of the horizontal leg of the coupling. A top 18, obliquely disposed upon the uppermo st end of the sleeve 17 to provide a restrlcted opening 19, is projected in the line of draft action from the filter to the carburetor.
It is calculated that the opening 19 of this size orits near equivalent will be sufficient to carry off only the fumes or vapors from the crankcase instead of allowing same to be wasted and fill the body of the vehicle with its obnoxious fumes. The sleeve of the deflector '17 is retained against displacement from the position shown in Figure 2 of the drawing Within the vertical leg 13 of the T- coupling 12 through the instrumentality of a pin or like fastening 20. By closing the outermost end of the breather pipe to the atmosphere, particles of dust and other extraneous fatter will not be drawn into the crankcase upon suction created therein incident to the action of the engine pistons.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein the vapors or fumes from the engine crankreserved to make such changes as properly 7 fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
