Between the attached end of the clip and the knob p lf ed to' fQrIii' a spring arm which causes the spring proper to clip as in other devices of this class, it being understood that the distinctive feature of my invention resides in the manner of forming the attached end of the clip and the method of mounting the same in connection with the cap or other support.

In the art to which my invention relates, it has been customary to pin or rivet a clip to a support or to pass two or more lugs or flanges through two ormore apertures formed in the support and then bend,flare,or rivet said lugs to retain the clip in position whereas with my present construction, all of such operations are obviated. words, the attaching end ofthe clip is completely formed and assembled or coupled with its support in themanner disclosed, and when assembled, the clip will produce a neat and finished appearance and will be strong and durable in use.

In this connection, it will also be understood that the end wall of the clip which overlies the wall of the support adjacent the aperture 6 may be given any contour or design, the same being rounded or arc-shaped in the construction shown. It will be apparent that various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A device of the class described comprising in combination with a tubular support having an elongated aperture therein, a clip, one end of which is provided with downwardly and laterally flared flanges, said end of the clip being coupled with the support by passing the same through said aperture to arrange said flanges in position to engage opposed walls of the aperture and the inner wall of said support, means mounted in said support cooperating with said flanges for retaining said clip against displacement with respect to said support, and a projecting tongue on said end of the clip overlying the support adjacent said aperture.

2. A clip for a tubular support, said support having an elongated aperture in the wall thereof andopening into the bore of said support, one end of the clip having side flanges extending through said aperture and engaging the inner wall of the support at opposite sides of the aperture, a member ined in the bore of the support and cooperatlng with said flanges for retaining the clip a gainst displacement with respect to the support, and a projecting member on said end of the clip overlying the outer wall of the support adjacent the aperture therein;

5. The combination with a fountain pen cap of an elongated aperture arranged in the side wall of the'cap adjacent the closed end thereof, a clip, one end of which is of substantially the same transverse dimensions as the transverse dimensions of said aperture, said clipincluding laterally extending side flanges adapted to be arranged to engage the inner surface of the bore of said cap, a plug member inserted into said bore inwardly of said flanges and adapted to firmly clamp said flanges between the same and the wall of said cap to retain the clip against displacement withrespect to the cap, said end of the cap including a projecting tongue adapted to overlie the outer wall of the cap at one end of the aperture therein, and the other end of the clip having an enlarged in em ber joined to the first named end ofthe clip by a spring arm.
