This invention relatesto a wrench and has for its primary object to provide, in'a manner as hereinafterset forth, a tool ofthe above class-having a palr of jaws formed in j forward end with an upturned nose}? whereby the grippingface of the-jaw 5 isformed- I 5 a manner whereby they are adapted togrip cylindrical or hexagonal objects of different sizes without the necessity of any adjustment I of the parts of thetool.

With the foregoingand other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown an embodiment of my invention, but it isto beunderstood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within thescope of the invention as claimed In the accompanying drawings in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

Referring to the drawings in detail the numerals ,1 and 2 respectively designate a pair of handle members formed with angularly disposed, flat portions 3 crossingeach other and pivoted together by means of a suitable pin 4., Formed integrally with the flattened portions 3 of the handles ,1 and '2 respectively is a lower jaw 5 and an upper jaw 6, with the forward end of the lower jaw projecting materially. beyond the forward end of the upper jaw. The upper jaw 6 is formed with an inwardly offset portion 7 and the lower jaw 5 is formed with an inwardly offset portion 8, said offset portions 7 and 8 providing the extreme forward ends of the invention is to provide a tool having a pair of awsas aforee jaws-with equal widths and with such ex-' treme forward ends being in alignment with respect to the length of the wrench.
The lower aw 5 is formed at its extreme with an angle 10 The rear face of the upturnednose 9 is formed with a plurality of transversely extending teeth 11.
The 'lower'face of the upper jaw 6, at the forward end thereof, is formed with an in- Verted Vi-shaped notch toprovide an angle" length than its rearward wall 13. The angle 11 is of lesser degree than the angle 10 and the vertical plane thereof is disposed rearwardly of the'vertical plane of the angle 10. When the jaws 5 and 6 are engaged with a pipe, as indicated at-ld in Figure 2, the walls 12 and 13 of the angle 11 engage thewall of '11, the'forward wall 12 of which is of less i the pipe to force the same into the angle 10 formed in the lower jaw 5. The upper face of the enlarged portion 8 of the jaw 5 and" the rearward wall 13 of the angle 11 are disposed at converging angles and resistthe displacement of the pipe in a rearward direction to enable the teeth 11 to bite into'the wall of the pipe. Movement of the jaws 5 and 6 about the pivot pin t to open or close the jaws changes the relative dispositionof "the angles 1O and 11 whereby pipes of dif -i 'ferentsizes may be forced into the angle 10 tobe engaged by the teeth 11.

What I "claim is A wrench comprising, a pair of substantially parallel handle members having .oppositely inclined anchor portions intersecting each other and pivotally connected together, one of said anchor portions merging at its forward end into a aw member ex-. tending in a plane substantially parallel to j the longitudinal plane of the handle member with which the anchor portion merging into the jaw member is formed, said jaw member 7 being formed at its forward end with an up v handle member and having a flat face formed 7 7 adjacent its forward end with anangular recess to provide an angular gripping face at the forward end of said last named jaw member and merging into the flat face thereof in spaced relation to the inclined anchor portion merging therelnto.
