This invention relates to a shore and more particularly to an adjustable shore. f It has particular utility'as a support for theforms used in concrete building construction, although its utility extends to any'use requiring a temporary support. In concrete building construction it is v necessary .to support the forms or molds for the concrete floors 7 and other parts of the building during: its erection by props or shores founded uponthe adjacent I sub -structure. Ordinarily, these supports comprise woodenprops cutto sum. able length and perhaps shimmed up by wedge members I i ana'djusta-ble shore which may be extended througha wide range of difierent lengths.
Another object is toprovide ashore which may be accurately adjusted and is of arigid construction andrelatively few; number fof parts. 7 .fl ejY Another object isto'provide an. adjustable shore that'is easilyrmanipulatedqand adjustpositively held in its adj ustedFpo'sr tionsa Q g Other objects and advantages will become apparentas the; description proceeds; f
j An embodiment ofthe-invention is shown the shore taken ad in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig lisa side elevation of the shore 1' Fig.2 is a horizontal section; taken on line 2:2.ofFig.1;-' i I c, j Fig-3 is afr'agmentary side elevation of jacent the upper endof Fig. is a horizontal sectional-view taken I ,on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1;

"1 and 2, respectively. The fixed member in= eludes an" upwardly extending part 3' preferably'in' theform 10f a steel pipe. A foot plate 4L is welded or otherwise secured to the bottom ot'this p pe and forms the foot or baseof the shore This foot plate may be provided with "openings or recesses through which suitable securiugmeans maybe passed; .to lmldzthe same in fixed'positionupon its Hniounting. The pipe is provided throughout the greater portion of'its length with spaced openings 5, the purpose ot-which will subse- ,quently-become apparent, while the upper V I end thereof-is co'nically tapered. An ob ect of the invention is to provide;-
7 ing side elements 6 which may be simply studs of suitabledimensions. Extending across the upper ends of theelementsfi is a head block .7a secured to the elements-by means of U- shaped straps 8. 1 The lower end of the elements seat in and-are connected together by a rectangular shoe 9. -This shoe-is formed with a bottom portion 10 'andupwardly eX-- tending flanges llarounditsentire periphery. 'The center ofthe bottom portion '10 is provided with an opening, the purpose of which willlaterbe explained. The bottom portionalsohas downwardly extending bosses 12 adj aoent tothe central opening therein, the numberlof which may vary although two are shown in the'drawing. -These bosses are provided with tapped bores vinto V which are threaded'headed bolts l3fwhich are adapted to retain an annular w'asher member 14; between the-head thereof and 'the l'ower' end-of the videdwi th a suitable number of openings through:whichscrews or other securing means l5-niayipass to securethe-side elements to the shoe Qthe movable niember is provided with braces 16- extending between andsecured to thesia elememsc. These-braces are prefer ablyin lithe-form ofinvertediohanneled stamp ings, the arnisl? of which extend across and are connected-to the outer sides of theside" elements while the web" portion 18 of the stamping is bent up at its opposite'ends to form vertically extending flanges 19. The
flanges 19 bear against the inner sides of the side elements and are connected thereto by suitable screws or other means 20. An opening 21 is formed centrally of the part 18 of the stamping and is adapted to guide the rigid member of the shore during the relative movement of the two members.
The means for moving the movable member on the fixed member may be called generally the jack assembly of the shore. This-means com rises the sleeve 22 externally threaded at 23 ad ing an outwardly extending lug 24 adjacent body of the sleeve, are each provided with horizontally aligned openings 25 and 26, while the sleeve has another opening 26 in horizontal axial alignment with opening 26. A .U-shaped pin 27, one arm of which is shorter than the other, is slidably fitted within these-openings. The longer arm of the pin is rovided with a rivet or other retaining memr 28, at itsend to prevent complete with- 25 drawal of the pin through theopening 25.
The shorter arm of thepin is adapted to extend through various of the openings 5 in the fixed member when such openings have'been aligned with the openings 26 and 26 of the sleeve. In this way the sleeve may be'adjustably secured on the fixed member and an initial approximate adjustment of the shore ob tained. If desirable the pin 27 may be provided with a notched portion 29 adaptedto ll! engage with the lug 24 so as to prevent the pin being jarred loose while the shore is in adjustedposition. An internally threaded nut 30 is rotatably mounted on the sleeve. This nut 30 hasan annular flange 31 at its I. upper end whichis retained between the washare 14 and the bottom 10 of the shoe 9. In this way the nut is free to. rotate on the sleeve while at the same time it will impart rectilinear'movement to the shoe and hence to the & movable member. The nut is provided with an operating handle 32 which may be either integral therewith or otherwise connected.
thereto.
In operation, the shoe is placed in the position in which it is to be used and the foot 4 is secured to the base. The approximate adjustment of the shore to the height required is effeoted by withdrawal of the pin 27 and the movement of the sleeve 22 to the desired position, whereupon the pin 27 is again inserted through the aligned openings in the sleeve and pipe 3. When in this position the head block 7 should be almost or lightly in engagementwith the underside of the form which the shoreis to support. 7 Then the nut 30 is ro titted-by the handle 32, in the proper direction to move upwardly on the sleeve 22. This movement of the nut, becauseof its engageg ment with the underside of the shoe 11,1forces its lower end. The lug 24, as well as the main on the sleeve which results in the flange 31 hearing against the washer 14 and causing the movable member 2 to descend both because of the pulling act-ion exerted thereby and be- "ca-useof gravity. As the member 2 descends the pipe 3 will pass through the openings 21 in aptedto slidably fit on the pipe 3 and hav-"' the various braces 16, and the upper conical end of the pipe facilitates this passage. It will thus be seen from the forcgoi n g descrip tion that the shore is formed of a relatively few number of parts,'is of strong construction, rigidly braced and permits of a first and approximate adjustment, and then a final and accurate adjustment.
Although the embodiment of the invention illustrated is a preferred one the invention should not be understood as limited thereto, sinceit is susceptible of man y variations and adaptations within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: I I

4c. Ashore comprising a fixed and a movable member, thefixed member being provided with spaced openings therethrough, the movable member having side elements extending.
on opposite sides of the fixed member, braces connecting the side elements at spaced intervals throughout their length and guiding the movable member in its movement onrthe fixed member, a shoe connecting the lower' ends of the side elements and surrounding,
