Description

Oct. 21, 1930. -w. H. OLDFIELD 0 BATH TRAP Filed Sepjt. 10, 1929 I v v Invenlof 2 W/LL/AM/Z 010/7510 Attorney Patented Oct. 21, 1930 WILLIAM H. omarmnnor nocrmsrnngimwvoiix BATH TRAP Application filed September 10,1929. Serial No. 391,665.
The object of thisinvention is to provide a new and improved form of bath trap.
Another object of the invention is to provide a trap that can be placed between j oists 8 that are small as 6" in height, which joists would provide a correspondingly small space for the installation of the trap.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cleanout opening'at the top of the i trap that is flush with the floor and is easily covered and uncovered so as to permit the easy cleaning of the trap.
Another object of the invention is to put the cleanout opening directly above the out-. let waste opening and make'it a part of the outlet waste.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the fitting taken on the line 1", 1" of Figure 3.
Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line 2*, 2* of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan View ofthe trap. Figure 4 is a sectional view of the cleanout opening shown at the top of Figure 1 with the nipples omitted.
In the drawings like reference numerals indicate like parts.
This invention is an improvement on the trap shown in my prior Patent 1,153,247. In this case the body of the trap 1 is made of a single casting and is provided with a hori- H zontally opening inlet opening 2 and a vertically opening outlet opening 3. Both of these openings are threaded with a female thread. In this body is provided a trap 4 by which the trap is sealed by water. To the outlet opening is'attached aT Y fitting herein called the outlet waste fitting which has a male thread at the inlet opening at the bottom as indicated at 5 and a female thread at the top as indicated at 6. This Y is also provided with a horizontally opening outlet as indicated at 7 which outlet opening is threaded with a female thread. In order to V picture the relative sizes of. the opening, the

stricted opening in the outlet the TnY fitting is 1 and the female thread in the' outlet opening7 is intended to receive'an 1 pipe;
To the-cleanout opening 6 a male threaded nipple 8 is attachedand above this a nipple 9 with a female thread is attached in which a male plug 10 is threaded. The nipple 9 has 7 a shoulder 11 therein on which bears the plug 10 with a fibre washer between them making a tight joint therewith. Thefioor 12 is cut away so as to surround" the nipple '9 and'the opening in the floor is covered by a cap'or plate 13 which is drawn tight down on the floor by the screw 14 which makes threaded In Figure 4 I have shown the nipples, 8 and 9 omitted in which casethe plug 10is screwed directly into the threaded opening 6 of the T 'Yfitting. Figure4 shows the top of the fitting asit would be closed and finished if used) between 6" joists and Figurel shows the fitting as it would be closed and finished if usedbetweenS joists or larger joists.
When it is desired to clean the trapthe screw. 14 is taken out and'the cover plate 13 is removed. The plug 10 is then screwed out and the fitting is then open so that a wire can be run down into either the body of the trap or into the outlet waste opening of the trap. It will also be seen that the outlet waste-opening can be turned in any direction to suit the conditions under which the installation ismadewithout interfering with access to it from the cleanout opening. The cleanout opening can be cemented tight with the surrounding floor so that no water can run through the floor down on to the plaster of the ceiling below.
As shown in Figure the upright wall of the'T; Y fitting that is opposite the horizontal outlet opening is curved toward the outlet opening and this curveserves to diroot the flush in the direction of the outlet opening and keeps the passageway of uniform diameter so that there is no opportunity for the water to flow up, and there is, therefore, no opportunity for any solid matter to settle, but all solid matter will be carried out by the flush.
It will also be understood that the cleanout opening being placed in connection with the outlet waste opening makes it much easier to clean either the trap body or the outlet 5 waste line. The outlet waste fitting can be turned in any direction to suit condition for installation without interfering with the cleanout opening. The cleanout opening can be cemented tight with the floor to prevent leakage. The cap has an inside plug which can be removed for cleaning either the trap body or the outlet waste opening.
I claim:
1. A bath trap having an oval shaped body 15 with a boss on the top thereof boss having a vertically opening outlet and cleanout opening therein and havi a female thread in said opening, a T Y fitting conn cted to the outlet opening with a inale t 0-) the lower end of the fitting, said iit ing a horizontally opening outl g in the side thereof and a verti Hy ope. g
cleanout opening in the top thereof thronglwhich the outlet opening of the trap and the fitting can be reached.
2. A bath trap having an oval shaped body d l l with a boss on the top thereof, e l
ing a vertically opening outlet 1 opening therein and having re; 30 in said opening, a T Y fitting connect to the outlet opening with a male thread on the lower end of the fitting, said fitting having a horizontally opening outlet opening in the side thereof and a vertically opening cleanout opening in the top thereof through which the outlet opening of the trap and the fitting can be reached, a plug for closing the cleanout opening.
3. A bath trap havin an oval shaped body with a boss on the top thereof, said boss having a vertically opening outlet and cleanout opening therein and having a female thread in said opening a T Y fitting connected to the outlet opening with a male thread on the lower end of the fitting, said fitting having a horizontally opening outlet opening in the side thereof and a vertically opening cleanout opening in the top thereof through which the outlet opening of the trap and the fitting can be reached, the Wall of said fitting opposite the horizontal outlet opening being curved toward the out-let opening to direct the flush in that direction.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM H. OLDFIELD.
