DIsrLAY DEVICE Application filed June 24,l 1929. Serial No. 373,431.
This invention relates generally to display' j devices, and refers more particularly to a device for housing, displaying and imparting motion to a flag, banner, pennant or the like.
The invention primarily aims to provide a simple, inexpensive and effective means for housing and displaying a flag or similar article while imparting thereto a waving or rip-l pling action for rendering the same more attractive and realistic.
More specifically, the invention"compre-` hends in a device of the character set forth, a housing defining a compartment 'within which a iag is mounted and through which compartment a draft may he directed yto impart the ripplingor waving action tothe flag. The invention furthermore contemplates in a device of this nature, 'a compartment i including panels which are so spacedas to y stationary display position when the draft is cooperate with and maintain the flag in a discontinued.
rlhe invention furthermore resldes in the the housing for the purpose ofchanging the flag or renewingor repairing damaged parts. With the above recited and other objects ,in4
view, reference is had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in whichthere is exhibited-one example or emdefine the actual scope of the same.
In the drawings: f Figure 1 is a front view of the device, illustrating the flag in motion.
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof. c Figure 3 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Figure 1. Y
Referring to the drawings `loy characters ,of reference, `the device includes -a marginal frame 5 which carries a front transparent i panel 6 and a rear opaque panel 7, the latter to the former to define a compartment 8 withf` in which the flag or the like 9 is supported from one of its edges, preferably by acord 10 which is attached at its opposite ends to a i staaf 11. The rear panel 7 is provided with 50 an inlet 12 adjacent one end and an outlet 13 facility with which access may be gained to Y fleeing disposed in spaced parallel relation "45 itsfopposite end to permit' of the passage orflow of draft ofairj through the compartment 8 fromsthesupported edge `of the flag to effect the rippling or waving of the same.: `In practice, the panels 6 and 7 will be so spaced as tocooperatewith` and maintain the flag in a display position when i the draft is discontinued.
As illustrated, the meansfor creating and directing a draft of air through thecornpartment 8 consistsof a fan 14 which is suitably p supported'` within a; chamber 115 defined ,betweenA arear wall 16, the rear panel 7, the
frame 5 and an end wall 17. The rearwall .i
16. isprovidedwith an airintake kopeningl and thechamloer 15 communicates with the compartment 8 throughthe intake or air passage 12. The rear wallfl and end wall17,
together with thefan 14, are Aremovably' associatedwith'the frameloy retaining devices 19, whereby access may begained tothe in-` terior for the purpose ofreplacing the flag or `renewing worn orbrokenparts and `to `also facilitate the initial `assembling of the device.
In use, with thefan inV operation, air is drawn in through the opening 18 to the cham-A ber 15, expelled therefrom through the passage ror intake 12" to the compartment, through which itliows forexhaust through the outletfl. VThe flow or passage of the draftof .air is .such asto impart a rippling or waving .action tothe flag to jrender Ithe same more realistic andn attractive in appearj 5 Y ance. When the draft is-discontlinued, the
panels 6 and 7 rcooperate with the `foldsor ripples of the display position.V y
Y From the foregoingiit` `willthus bei seen that adisplay device for the purpose specified `has been devisedwhich issimple and 'attractiveand maybe used for various'pu'rposes.
What is claimed is: Y
`1. An apparatus for housing, displaying and waving a flag' or thelike, including a frame having a transparent front `panel and a rear panel arranged in closely spaced par-` allel relation to define a compartment within which the flag is arranged and supported and means for causing a draft of air to flow to support `the samein. a
through said compartment to impart a rippling action to the iiag.
2. An apparatus for housing, displaying and Waving a flag or the like, including a frame having a transparent front panel and a rear panel arranged in closely spaced parallel relation to define a compartment Within which the flag is arranged and supported and means for causing a draft of air to flow through said compartment to impart a rippling action to the flag, the spacing of the` panels being such as to maintain the flag in display position when the draft of air is discontinued.
8. An apparatus for housing, displaying and Waving a flag or the like, including a frame, parallel spaced front and rear transparent and opaque panels carried by the frame to define a compartment Within which the Hag is supported from one of its edges and means for creating and causing a draft of air to flow therethrough from the supported edge of the iiag to effect the rippling of the same. Y
4. An apparatus for housing, displaying and waving a flag or the like, including a frame, parallel spaced transparentfront and opaque rear panels carried by the frame to define a compartment Within which the flag is supported from one of its edges and means for creating and causing a draft of air to flow therethrough from the supported edge of the Hag to efiect the rippling of the same, said means consisting of a chamber having an inlet and disposed in rear of the opaque panel and having` communication with the Hag containing compartment and a draft creating device Within said chamber.
5. In an apparatus for housing, displaying and Waving a flag, a frame, a transparent front panel, an opaque rear panel arranged in spaced parallel relation Within the frame and defining a compartment in which a flag is arranged and supported and means for causing a draft of air to flow through said compartment for rippling the flag.
6. In an apparatus for housing, displaying and Waving' a flag, a frame, a transparent front panel, an opaque rear panel arranged in spaced parallel relation Within the frame and defining a compartment in which a fiag is arranged and supported, said compartment having an inlet adjacent one end, an outlet adjacent the opposite end and means in rear 1 p of said opaque panel for creating and directing a draft of air through said compartment from the inlet to the outlet for effecting a rippling of the flag. Y
7 In an apparatus for housing, displaying and Waving a flag, a frame, a transparent front panel, an opaque rear panel arranged in spaced parallel relation Within the frame and defining a compartment in which a flag is arranged and supported, said compartment having an inlet adjacent one end, an outlet of June, 1929.
