' My invention relates to a sectionalfurnace of known type, which is made up of an assem-i blediseries of hollow-water containing sections and'in which it'is sought to procure complete combustion reaction and to render the furnace? smokeless by the introduction of heated auxiliary air, the structure and objects thus this art. 1 QMy invention is concerned with the means generally recited being familiar in form-the fire box, the intermediate sections the firebox and flue space, and the rear sections the back of the furnace and the com munication between the flue space and overhead flues. The gases passing into the rear of these flues burn with a yellow flame, which indicates incomplete combustion and I there fore introduce auxiliary air (preferably highly heated) into these flues near their rear thus changing the yellow to ablue or white flame indicating more perfect combustion. For introducing auxiliaryair at this point, means of simple design and low cost 1 areeniployed adapted todeliver the air in a. I V heated state into and across the fire gas flow. Such means, if the best results areto be obtained, substantially encircles the fire gas flow, and is preferably constructed as a unit which may be insertedand removed as such, andwith which the structure of one or more ofthe hollow water-containing furnace sections is adapted to coac't as hereinafter explained.

The front plate 3 has the usual door and damper arrangements; The sections referred to are provided with aligned v openings forming the fire box 6, flue space 7,
overhead side return fiues 8 and common escape flue 9, the flow of the gases being usual, as indicated by the arrows. Grate bars 10 of ordinary pattern support the fuel bed. The front unit 1? is provided with a fuel feed door 11 andwith clean out doors 12, whereby access to the overhead flues may be obtained.
In the preferred form of my invention, I make use of a flue-encircling air distributing and delivering unit, insertable and removable as such, formed as a box 13, having air delivery openings or exit means 14:around its inner walls andprovided'in its projecting end 15 with a damper 16*for controlling the air admission. "This air delivery box is adapted to fit in a depression or countersink in a section 1 adjacent the rear end of oneof the side flues. In the specific construction illustrated, the section 1 is provided with Wall portions 17' and 18, which su pport the airdistributing unit 13 so that its lower side is subjectedtonthe heatof the the gases as appears in Figures 1 and 2. A similar air box is similarly arranged'in each side flue, the design of the sectiond. being symmetrical and thus the wall portions 18, which support the inner ends of the boxes, are formed by'the endslof the middle cross wall member 21 of said section. {As thus arranged the inner ends of the boxes may bedirectlyexposed to a g e flow in the middle flue sothat the recess receiving the air distributing and delivery box might be formed in faces of adjacent sections instead of entirely in the. face of one section but the construction shown being cheapest. and simplest ,is preferred. 8. A sectional furnace made up of an assembled series of cast hollow water-containing sections having in their lower part aligned openings constituting a fire box and aligned openings over the same at each side of the furnace constituting overhead return flues in communication with said fire-box,
