'll1e object of this invention is to provide a combined book case, table and seat in which the table and seat are adapted to be folded up and placed into a section of the book case I; in the collapsed form.

Another object of this invention is to so construct theoombined bookcase, table and seat, that it can be readily built into the Wall of a house. i 7

These and other objects of this invention will be fully illustrated in the drawing, described in the specification and pointedout in the claims at the end thereof.

The book case forming the subject matter of this invention is especially adapted to be built into the wall of a room in the house where it will be concealed until needed. As illustrated in the figures of the drawing,.the frame or casing 1 of the book case is adapted to be inserted into a cut out section of the wall 2 and depending on the thickness of the wall will be completely located within it so that. the front of the. book case will be flush with the outside of the wall. When the thickness of the wall is less than the depth of the book case, the book case may project from the wall a distance equal to the difference between the depth of the book case and the thickness of the wall into which it is built. The book case is preferably made of a standard depth that will be suitable for all standard thicknesses of walls. The book case is divided into two sections 3 and 4 of which section i is provided with the removable and Section 3 of the book case is constructed to conceal the table and seat when it is folded up and for this purpose the lower portion of the case is left free. In each side of this free section of the book case is provided a vertical guide channel 6 having a horizontal extension 7 directed toward the front of the book case formed at the upper end thereof. This guide channel serves as a guide and support for the inner end of thetable leaf 8, which for this purpose isprovided ;with a pair of lugs 9 at theinner end thereof that into the guide channel as illustrated in Figure 1. the under side of the outer end of the table leaf is hinged the leg 10 which when swung away from the under side of the table leaf supports the outer end thereof and supports the leaf in its horizontal position. An extension leaf 11 is pivoted to one side of the table leaf 8 and this extension leaf is swung from the top of the leaf to one side thereof and supported flush with the leaf 8 by the swinging bracket 12 pivoted on the under side of thefleaf 8. To fold up the table, the extension leaf l1-is first folded on top of the leaf 8 after which the leg 10 is folded under the leaf so that all three can slide horizontally into the section 3 until the guide lugs 9 of the leaf 8 have reached the beginning of the horizontal extension of the guide slot. When this point is reached, the guide lugs are altil the folded table is placed in a vertical lowed to drop intothe Vertical guide slot un- 1 position and rests with its inner'end on the bottom of the section 3 of the book case. In this vertical collapsed position, a swinging lug'13on the under side ofthe shelf 14 can be turned to engage the upper edge of the folded table and hold it in place within the book case. i

The seat of the combination book case is mounted on the door 15 which is hingedto the frame 1 of thebook case and when closed covers one half of the front of the book case. The other half of the book case isclosed by a similar door 16 which is suitably hinged to the right of the book case.

The seat comprises. a top 1'7 and the legs 18 and 19 which are hinged to the top one each end thereof. 1 The leg 18is mounted to slide on the door 15 which for this purpose is provided with a pair of spacing and supporting blocks 20 and 21 that carry on the outside the guide brackets 22 and 23. These guide brackets embrace the side and a por tion of the front of the leg near the top and bottom thereof and hold the leg against the spacing blocks so that it can slide up or down thereon. The hinges which connect the leg 18 to the inner end of the top 17 arearranged as illustrated in Figure 2 so that in order to swing the top up into the vertical position, the leg must first be raised on the spacing block to allow the inner edge of the top 17 to swing on top of the upper spacing block 20. This is illustrated in Figure 2 which shows that in its collapsed form the leg 18 of th seat is raised from the floor to facilitate the insertion of the collapsed seat into the section 3 of the book case when the door 15 is closed. The top of the seat is held in place against the door by means of the book 2% provided on the door and the eye 25 provided in the outer end of the top of the seat. he two legs 18 and 19 are connected together at the bottom by the connecting link which is suitably pivoted in the side of each leg near the lower end thereof. This connecting link operates to simultaneously swing the outer leg 19 away from the top as the topis swung away from the inside of the door, so that by the time the top of the seat is in a horiozntal position the outer leg is at right angles to it ready to support the outer end thereof. As soon as the top is placed in the horizontal position, the inner end is clear from the top of the spacing block 20 so that the top with its legs can slide down on the door until the legs rest solidly on the floor.

The space not occupied by the collapsed table and seat, when it is located in the section 3 of the book case, is utilized for the additional shelves 14 and 27 and the drawers 28 and 29. These drawers and shelves are utilized for storing stationery, writing utensils etc. On the inside of the door 15 above the seat that is attached thereto is also provided an additional shelf 30 on which other utensils may be placed and stored. An electric light cable or extension socket 31 can be provided on the inside of the book case so that it will be a handy connection for an electric light that is placed on the table.

I claim:

1. In a combination book case, table and seat having a door mounted in front of the book case, a collapsible seat comprising a top and two legs supported on said door, a pair of spacing blocks mounted on said door, guide members carried by said spacing blocks and engaging one of said legs and allowing said leg to slide up and down on said spacing blocks, a hinge connecting said leg supported by said spacing block with the top of said seat, said hinge being adapted to allow the end of said top to swing on top of one of said spacing blocks and hold said leg in a predetermined position on said spacing blocks with relation to said door and the floor on which said book case is mounted the fold ing table and its support, the folding seat and its support all being adapted to fold up vertically overlapping each other in the lower part of the one compartment that covered by the door that supports the seat.

2. In a combination bookcase. table and seat, the combination of a case divided into two sections, one of said sections having guide channels that extend vertically from the bottom up and then forward, a table, one end of which is mounted to slide vertically in and out of the section containing the guide channels, one end of the table being engaged with said guide channels, a door hinged in front of said sections, a collapsible seat mounted on one of said doors and adapted to be supported in said section by said door and in front of said table when the table and seat are folded up and the doors closed, the folding table and its support, the folding seat and its support all being adapted to fold up vertically overlapping each other in the lower part of the one compartment that is covered by the door that supports the seat.
