Description
June 24, 1930. R. s. HINTZE DISPLAY RACK AND STAND Filed April 18 INVENTOR .d'. Hirvize AITQRNEYG EImI- Patented June 24, 1930 RAYMOND S. I-II1\T'IZE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS DISPLAY BACK, AND STAND Application filed April 18,
My invention relates to improvements in display racks and stands, and it consists in the combinations, constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed. An object of my invention is to provlde a display rack and stand'which has novel means for supporting a plurality of racks or casings so that they may be moved in a circuitous path or moved with respect to their supporting member and with respect to each other so that the cards displayed therein may be readily viewed. 7 I
A further'object of my inventionis to provide a device of the typedescribed which has novel means for supporting the cards so that the cards will not in any way be soiled or destroyed.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which has novel means for positioning the supply of cards in close proxi'mityto the card in the display section.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the typedescribed which has adjustable partitions which may be positioned to receive cards of various sizes.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the type described which has novel means for opening the cards of the booklet type so that the buyer may view the inner portion thereof without handlmg the card. I
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my device,
Figure 2 is a detail view of the supporting means, i
Figure 3 is a'longitudinal sect onal view of one of the casings, showing. the display door partially opened,
Figure 4 is a sectionesubstantiallyalong the line 44 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a detail view of the card-holding means, and i y stampedout portions 16 and 18, thus positioned form a plurality 1929. Serial N0. 356,172.
Figure 6 is a section substantially along the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a base 1 which has a hollow neck portion 2 arranged to receive a reduced portion 3 of a supporting shaft 4. An annular recess 5 is disposedin the reduced portion 3 and arranged to receive the inner end of a set screw 6 which allows the shaft and the reduced portion to rotate but holds them against vertical displacement. I
A supporting table or member 7 is disposed concentric with the shaft 4 and the reduced portion 3 and is provided with upwardly extending pivot pins 8 disposed at spaced-apart positions adjacent the peripheral edge thereof. A bearing 9 is disposed between the supporting member 7 and the hollow neck portion 2 of the base 1. A head portion 10 is disposed upon the upper end of the shaft 4 and is provided with pivot screws 11 which are in alignment with the pivot pins 8 upon the supporting member 7.
A plurality of display casings 12 is disposed between the supporting member 7 and the head portion 10 and is pivotally held in place by the pivot pins 8 and the pivot screws 11 which extend through openings in the bottom 13 and the top 13*, respectively, of the casings. The casings are provided with side walls 14 and 15 which have inwardly stamped lip members 16. A central vertical partition 17 is disposed in the casing and is provided with a plurality of stamped-out lip portions 18, some of which are disposed upon one side thereof and the others disposed upon the opposite side thereof. A plurality of shelves 19 having downwardly extending flanges 20 is provided and arranged to be disposed between the partition 17 and'the side walls 14 and 15. The flanges 20 engage with the and when of card or booklet-receiving compartments 21.
The side wall 15 is provided with flanges 22 for receiving a transparent member 23 and holding the transparent member 23 at a spaced-apart position from the side wall 15. An article-supporting member 24 is arranged to be disposed between the wall 15 and the tomer.
The side wall 14: is provided with a flange 30 which is arranged tofreceive'a booklet supporting member 31 Booklets 32v have their backportions secured to the supporting mem ber 31 by the same means as indicated in Fig 'ures 5 and 6 for securing the cards 26 in place. A display door 33 is hingedly secured at 34L to the side wall l l and isprovided with a cord or rod;35. Th covers or front portions or" the booklets 32are'held adjacent the display door 33 by means of thecord35.
A casing door or cover 36 is hingedly secured to the wall 15 and is normally held in clpsed position by mea'n'sof a spring 37.
From the foregoing-description of the various. parts of "the device, the ope-ration thereof maybereadily understood. The device may beipositioned at any desired locationso that the supporting member 7 together with the casings 12, may be freely-rotated thereupon. Handles38 are carried by the supporting member? and extend radially therefrom at positions between the casings '12. The customer-desirin'g-t'o purchase a card or booklet may rotate the supporting -memb'er 7 by the aid ofthe handles 38 until the casing contain- ;ing the desired group ofcards'or booklets is brought into view. The cards 26 may be readily viewed through the transparentmember 23. The stock of cards may be contained F 'in'the compartments 21 which are nearest the cards positioned upon the card-supporting member 24. :By opening the door "or cover :36, the-desired number ot'cards may-be readily removed therefrom. V
' Let us assume thatthecustomer wishes to purchaseorieotthebooklets. The cover or trontgportionof the booklet may be readily viewed through-thetransparent door 33. To view the inner portion of the booklet,'the customermay open the low 33, and :in so doing the cord-35 willopen the -booklet's,displaying the interior thereof to the view of'the cus- ='In this manner the cards and booklets may bereadily viewed without the-necessity'of thecustomer or the salesman touching themand'thussoiling'them.
Furthermore, the means indicated in Fig- .ur'es 5' and '6 as holding "the cards or book lets in their respective positions in engagement with their respective'supporting memcrosssection and is arranged upon the upper endof the transparent member asrerheidingrne card-supporting members 24 and 31 makes it possible to hold the cards and booklets in place without soiling them so that they may be removed and sold it so desired. The pivotal connection of each casing to the supporting member 7 and the head portion 10 permits each casing to be moved so that the cards and booklets may be more readily viewed. The compartments 21 are provided for the booklets in their respective orders, the same as meiits ier-the cards,
A retaining member 39 is U-shaped in to be disposed bfer 24L-in;place.,
