My invention relates to hair clasps or fasteners, the primary object being to provide an improved form of fastener or clasp'that may `be advantageously used to secure the end curls particularly produced in water waving.

When end curls have heretofore been produced they have been secured by the use of some form of hair pin, and.1 am aware also that hair clasps have heretofore been devised, but in so far as I am aware such clasps are not adapted for the proper securement and fastening of the end curls as produced by water waving.

My improved deviceis cheap to manufacture, is quickly and easily applied and detached from the hair, and is very efficient in holding end curls in position until the hair is thoroughly dry and the curl receives its 'zo ultimate dry form.

Other objects of my invention will appear from the following description, directed to the preferred embodiment thereof as hereinafter described and illustrated '25 in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of the specification, the novel features being more specifically set forth in the' appended claims.

In applying the fastener to a ringlet or designated generally by larger than-an ordinary These devices embodying be made in difend curl, such. ringlet or curl will be clamped/ between the telescoping depressed portions 19 and 20, the hair to be held therein for a considerable space of time until the ringlets or curls are thoroughly dried therein. .These fasteners are generally used when the hair is damp or wet, and I prefer that the device be constructed so as to peryj/mit readily the escape of water in the form of steam or moisture. This I accomplish by perforating the upper plate 16 both in the bottom of the depressed portion 2O as at 25, and in the peripheralfportion of the top plate 16 also, as designated at 26. These perforations and 26 serve the double purpose of permitting the escape of moisture in hair clamped in the devicefor drying and ringlet they also serve as centering means for projections 27 in the lower plate 19. II provide also similar projections 28 in the peripheral portion of the lower plate to co-operate with the perforations 26 in the upper plate. The projections 27l act to pierce the or end curl of hair when clamped in position and to hold the same firmly in the retainer. These serve to assist in centering the plates with referenceto each other and also in the same manner as the corresponding perforations and projections 25 and 27, respectively, assist in holding any ringlets or curls of hair that may project toward the peripheral portions of the device when not in use. v

An important feature of my invention resides in the construction of the top and'bot vtom plates 1 6 and 17 at the ends thereof adjacent from the connecting or spring hinge portion 15. The plates 16 have lateral end . portions 30 and 31 that are wider than the corresponding lateral end portions 82 and 33 of the lower plate, Whilethe lower plate is longer than the upper plate, projecting beyond the same a suiicient distance, as illustrated at 36, Figs-1 and 3 to enable an operator to grasp the projecting side portions 30 and 31 of the upper plate between two fingers and permitting the separation of the two plates against the spring connection by grasping the projecting portion of the lower plate 36 with another linger' of that hand or another hand.

In Fig: 5 I show a slight modification of the preferred form of the invention in which a locking device is provided by means of the integral spring tongue 40, which is shown at the end of the plate 17, the same having an overhanging angular portion 4l adapted to co-operate with the forward lip the upper plate 16 to clamp or lock the two plates rmly together in their assembled position upon a ringlet or curl of hair 'in' the event that the spring or' resiliency of the spring hinge part 15 is not suiiicient for this purpose.

The devicemaybe readily and quickly 'approximately that of a dime for use on ordinary ringlets or end curls, I do not desire to be limited as to size,.for it will be apparent that the device may be constructed of sizes much larger than that herein illustrated and described, 'and may vbe used advantageously for the securement and fixation of all sizes and textures of hair, and

obviously, the size of the device will depend upon the-size ofthe curl to be produced.

It will be obvious that those skilled in the art may modify my device without departing from the purpose and spirit of the in- ,vention.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An end curl fastener comprising two separable clamping members provided with co-operating substantially circular telescop- -ing portions, said telescoping portions being adapted to receive an end lcurl therebetween, and means for holding said members in clamping position upon a ringlet or curl of hair. Y

An end curl fastener comprising separableclamping members formed from an integral sheet of elastic material, the said separable clamping members being connected by an elastic yoke and being provided with substantially centrally located telscoping oil'- set portions, said offset portions being adapted to receive an end curl therebetween.

3, An end curl fastener comprising vseparable clamping members formed from anv integral sheet of elastic material, the said separable clamping members being connected by an elastic yoke and being provided with substantially centrally located telescoping offset portions, lsaid offset portions being adapted to receive an end curl therebetween,

As an article of manufacture, an end curl fastener formed from a sheet of flexible material and comprising two substantially body portions connected by an portion of one of said body members being wider than the corresponding terminal portion of the other body member,there being a projecting part of the other body member beyond the extremity of the said wider terminal portion whereby the wider terminal portion may be grasped between two fingers of one hand of a n operator while ressure is applied by a finger on the other and of the operator to separate the body portions of the saiddevice in adjusting a ringlet or curl of hair therein.

7. As an article of manufacture, an end curl fastener adapted to be stamped from an integral sheet of iexible elastic material and comprising two separable body portions 'flexibly andy elastically connected together,
