Description
J. 'I'. CODY LUBRIGA'I'OR.
No 176 739 Patented my 2,1876.
N.FETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES P TENT OFFI'o'E.
JOHN T. CODY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRIC ATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,739, dated May 2, 1876; application filed March 27, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I', JOHN T. CODY, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, and State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Connecting Devices for the Necks of Lubrioators, Lamp-Globes, &c., of which the following is a specification M My invention is designed to provide a better means than heretofore used for the attachment of the metallic screw-thread to the neck of the glass globe; and it consists in providingthe glass neck with a circular and cross groove, and connecting thereto a solid screwthreaded ring with a bent lip. to fit the crossgroove, the ring being held in place by a split ring.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lubricator-globe provided with my connecting device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a lamp with its neck, embracing my invention. Fig. 3 represents separate enlarged views of my device. Fig. 4 is a section of the same.
A represents the glass globe. It is provided, when cast, with an inner shoulder, a, an outer groove, 0, and a cross-groove, c. B is a thimble, which is fitted to slide snugly over the neck of the globe, so as to occupy a position inside the groove 0. C is a ring of wire, split, so as to allow it to spring over the neck into the groove 0, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4.
When in this position it retains the threaded,
thilnble in place on the neck.
To prevent the thimble from revolving when the shank D or burner or other attachment'is the groove first the thilnble can beput into place.
I claim- 1. A glass globe for a lubricator, lamp, or
other use, Whose neck is formed with shoulder a, groove 0, and groove 0, substantially as and for the purpose specified:
2. The combination of glass globe A, thin]- 'ble B, and ring C, constructed and connected substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JOHN T. CODY.
Witnesses:
J. L. WARTMANN, JOHN E. JoNEs.
