c This invention relates to condimentk holders, and has for its objectto provide an improved container having a plurality of separate chambersor compartments'for holdl rcontainer in any suitable manner so that 1t 4 "r ing `different Condiments, such as salt,-pepper,
" or the like, and having -means for independ each chamber. n
At ypresent ythe several condiments are usually held in separate containers which Vmakes the 'spicing of food at the table rather inconvenient as Vit is necessary to pass and use at least two differentv holders when seasoning with both salt and'pepper.
The invention comprises the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and may be carried out VVin various forms. In the following specification I shall describe two embodiments of the invention, but it is to be understood that I do not limit` myself thereto, as other modications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figurel is a vertical section of one form of the invention, taken on the line 1-1 of l Fig. 2;
Fig. `2 is a top plan viewv of said'form; Fig. 3 is a vertical section of a modied form, partly broken'away/,con the'line'3--3 fof Fig. 4; and,
Fig. 4 is atop plan view thereof.
Referring to thevdrawings, 1 1s an open top `hollow container, voflglass, metal, or other material, having` a solid verticaly wall or partition` 2that divides the interior into two .Y separate chambers Vorcompartments 3 and i' f 4, each intendedto holda different condiment, such as `saltfand pepper.r The chambers'may be of equal or different size, and Vin fsomeinstances it maybe desirable tohave the chamber' intended to hold salt slightly Y larger thanl that for the pepper, as more salt than pepper isgenerally used in seasoningY foods.
, f5 is the .coverlof the container having ,aper- #tures rforoutlet ofthe contents of cham- Yber 3, andsimilar apertures 7 for outlet ofk the contents of the other chamber 4. A channel 8 is secured tothe underside of the cover ently controlling discharge of the contents of n Y f end I preferA to employ a threaded sleeve or valve.
and iits over the top edge ofthe wall 2 to lo-V cate properly the discharge apertures of the cover with respect to the chambers.
The cover is detachably secured to the t maybe readily removed when desired to fill the chambers with the condiments. To this securing member 9 that screws onto'the top of the container and hasA an annular flange or "Y bent edge 10 which restson the cover to hold y it in place. In removing the cover, it is device, and are mounted to move verticallyf Another' form is illustrated in Figs. 3 and4,
lwherein the-valve-caps are also-held on their seatsby spring pressure, but are rmounted y'for tiltingmotion.
v Intherform of construction shown in Figs., y1; and 2, the valve forthe chamber 3l comu prises a cap 11 which seats on the cover and closestheoutlet apertures 6, while the valve of chamber 4 similarly comprises acap 12 that closes the vapertures 1. Each cap, respectively, is secured to a stem 13 in the form lof a hollow cylinder having alclosed bottom, which stem passes through an opening in the cover. Secured tothe underside of the cover vis a second hollow'cylinder14, also 4with a` closed bottom, which'cylinder serves as a yhousing to .guidethevalve-stem vertically.v y* A pin 15 is secured, at its'ends in the housing 14 and passes transversely through dimercally opposite slots 16' in thestem 12. -A spring 17 is locatedfin the'lower portion ofthe stem, below the pin 15, to hold the `valveon its seat. .j A handlezor lever 18, pivoted to the cover at 19, isP provided to raise the valve-cap 11 from its seat, while asimilar handle 20, pivoted at, 21, is provided for in- Vdependently lifting the valve-cap 12.
In the modification shownin Figs. Band 4, the valve-cap 22 is Xed to one end of the handle or lever 23, while'the cap 24 is supportedton a similarleverl 25. `Extending vdovvnffrorn each lever isa red 2 6 having an' -v Y f A enlarged foot 27 that rests on a/spring l2 8 held in the bottom-0f the casing lor 'cylinderA Y 29 secure'dto the cover 5. rlhe spring l28,V f M f' jj v acting throiigh'the rod 26, holds the'valve v i Y cap against its seat and returns it t that position after it has been raisedby depressing if f As the valvecaps areheldtightl, en their.
