BRACELET CHAIN Application filed June 14,
vide a bracelet structure which will with stand longitudinal strains without separation.
Another object is to provide a sheet metal construction for ahracelet which will present an attractive appearance when worn. 1
l/Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, which will be more fully described in the detailed description following, and will be more particularly pointed out in the appended clan In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view on an enlarged scale of a chain formeo in accordance with this invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of a connecting link; A
Figure 3 is perspective view of a connecting link, with the edges turned upwardly to form flanges, as in the finished chain;
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line H of Figure 1, tioning of the flanged link edges and the chain body members, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Figure 1, showing the relative heights of the body members and the link flanges.
It is found desirable, in the formation of thin bands or straps for securing a Watch on a wrist, to produce the appearanceof a hollow link construction and thus give the band a neat appearance while Worn, and at the same time to reduce the manufacturing cost by simplifying the manufacturing proce- I therefore connect together frame showing the relative posi-' 1929. Serial No. 371,011.
JERSEY, assienon TO GEMEX coMrANY, or conronnrron or new JERSEY links by open ended sheet metal bodylinks,
and turn the edges of'the frame links up wardly to close the upper portion of the body link ends and to form an attractive border for the body links without detracting from the flexibility of the band or strap; this construction provides a thin band or strap which will withstand the longitudinal strain'to which it is subjected without separation of the consituen't parts thereof; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention illustrating the preadvantageferred structure by which these ous results may be accomplished.
Referring" to the drawings, 10 designates the frame link, generally rectangular in shape and provided with a longitudinal rectangular opening 11 leaving end sections 12, 13 which, as shown, are preferably arcuate in form. A sheet metal connecting link 14.
has wing portions 15, 16 which are folded around the sides of the frame links, as shown in Fig. 1, to form substantially rectangular links. The ends 12, 13 of the connecting link are turned upwardly, as shown in Figure 5, to form an attractive border, or margin, for the body links, completely closing the greater portion of the open ends of the body links so as to present an attractive appearance, and wrist.
Each of the parts of this strap is of thin sheet stock, the thickness of the strap being twice the thickness of the .body link stock plus the thickness of the frame link stock. The strap is flexible, is strong, and is eX- tremely thin.
The foregoing description is directed sole- 1y towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all variations and mechanical changes within the scope of the invention, as defined bythe appended claim.
I claim: v
A bracelet chain comprising a series of also to prevent cutting the V j r 1,760,662
generally rectangular-shaped frame links, each having a longitudinal slot therein, and sheet metal links, each comprising a body portion with oppositely extending Wings, each extending through the slot of a frame link seated directly in contact With the body portion and folded together With their edges 7 abutting, and end sections on said frame links folded towards said body portions to form margins for said sheet metal links.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature,
EUGEN PRESTINARI.
