Description

Patented May 20, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT" OFFICE GUSTAF ECKERBOM, 0F SANDVIK, NEAR STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, ASSIGNOR TO STOCK- HOLMS IBENMJ'OLSFABBIKS AKTIEBOLAG, OF SANDVIK, NEAR STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN METHOD TO PROVIDE GLUE IN SMALL PIECES IN THE SHAPE OF GRANULES OR, DROPS WITH A COATING OF A IPOWDER AS WELL AS GLUE MANUFACTURED ACCORDING "r0 SAID METHOD No Drawing. Application filed February 3, 1928, Serial No. 251,739, and in Sweden February 4, 1927.
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing glue in small pieces in the shape of granulesor drops provided with a coating of a powder. This coating is obtained in such a way that either a solution of glue of suitable temperature and consistency by drops is allowed to fall into the powder in question which then is attached to the drops. these being then also cooled, or also, in such a way that small pieces of glue produced in any other suitable manner and before the same have had time to dry and while still in a glutinous state, or if they have become hard and dry, after having again in some suitable way been made glutinous, are introduced into or sprinkled with the powder which is to form the coating on the same.
If the small pieces of glue are formed byportioning a solution of glue into drops these may be allowed to fall on a movable path upon which is'applied a layer of some suitable powder. When the drops, that have not yet become stifi', drop on and into the powder it is evident that each drop not only will maintain its drop shape better than if it had fallen upon a hardersurface, but also will receive a coating of powder. The drops of-the glue solution may also be allowed to fall into a suitable liquid of suitable temperature and removed therefrom, whereafter the drops while still in a glutinous state, or if the same have become stiff and hard and then again made glutinous, are introduced into or sprinkled with the powder in question.
The small pieces of glue may also beformed by transforming the solution of glue into leaves, cakes, blocks, rods or the like and,
when these have become stiff, by dividing the same into small cubes, granules of arbitrary shape, small bars and the like, and while these still are glutinous or if they have become hard and dry after having again been made glutinous, said small pieces are introduced into or sprinkled with the powder that has to form the coating on the same.
'- The powder in question should preferably be of such a kind that the drops when provided with a coating of the same will acquire characteristics taken advantage of in the present invention. The drops provided with the coating are separated from the rest of the powder for instance by sifting. Drops provided with a coating of a powder have a dull surface, whereas drops without this coating have a bright surface. In consequence of the coating on the drops amongst other things the advantage is obtained that the grains attached to the drops substantially retain their individuality when'brought together which facilitates and accelerates the drying and which also has for consequence that the. drops g Specially suitable are in some cases such substances which at the same time are acting as disinfectants, for instance boric acid. If desired mixtures of powder of difi'erent substances may be used. A suit-able powder is in many cases a powder consisting of pulverized dry glue in grains of suitable size, considering tlllat the drops then will consist entirely of g ue.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
, 1. A method of improving the solubility and ease if drying of glue including the steps of rendering the glue flowable, forming drops therefrom, and coating each individual drop with powder.
2. A method of improving the solubility and ease of drying of glue including the steps of rendering the glue flowable and dropping said glue drop by drop into a. powder, whereby each drop receives a coating of the powder thereby maintaining the individuality of the drops.
3. A method of improving the solubility and ease of drying of glue including the each drop is caused to become coated with the powder thereby maintaining the individuality of the drops. 'o
4. A new product of manufacture consist- 5 ing of powder-coated drops of glue.
5. A. new product of manufacture consisting of drops of glue each drop being coated with a coating of powder of a suitable substance which is non-deleterious to the properties of the glue.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
' GUSTAF EOKERBOM.
