, This invention relates to a new and improved tank and pump and more particularly to a combined tank and pump formed of pressed steel, and especially designed for 5 chassis lubrication. V
In a structure of this character in-which the pump cylinder is secured to the bottom of the .tank, as'by riveting, and the plunger or piston moves through the upper wall or cover of the tank, and the piston or plunger of necessity has a close fit in the bore of'the cylinder, it is, owing to variations in riveting and the general spring present in sheetmetalwork, found practically impossible to maintain accurate alignment of the iston with the pump cylinder, which is requlred if the piston is to move in the cylinder without sticking or jamming. g v
' One of the objects of this invention resides in an adjustable or floating'bearing which permits the piston to automatically align itself with the pumpcylinder to compensate for any ordinary variations existing in or produced by handling or'otherwise in the manufactured product. I v

For the purpose of supporting the tank in any suitable position, a bracket 36. of novel form is provided, andas perhaps best illustrated in Figure 5, is of substantially triangular conformation having two bolt openings 58 at its upper portion and a third bolt opening 58--- at its apex or lower portion. The bracket, as shown, is formed of a single piece of sheet metal cut and shaped to the configuration shown and spaced from and secured to the wall of the tank body by flanges -39- shaped to fit the outer wall of the tank body and secured thereto in any suitable manner, as by welding, or the like.
Integral inwardly bent flanges 4i0- are provided adapted to engage the heads of the bolts 41 so as to prevent their rotation.
Altho I have shown and described. a specific structure of combined tank and pump, and details thereof with particular reference to the specific structures of floating bearing, still I do not desire to restrict myself to the details of structures herein described as constituting at present perhaps preferred embodiments of my invention, as various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claims hereto appended.
I claim 1. A combined tank and pump comprising a receptacle and a pump cylinder secured thereto, a piston movable through a wall of the receptacle and in the pump cylinder, a bearing for said piston carried by the wall of the receptacle, slidably laterally in all directions with respect to said wall, and including spring means tending to maintain the bearing in any position.

A combined tank and pump comprising a receptacle including a cover having an opening therethrough, a pump cylinder secured to the receptacle, a piston movable through the opening in the cover and in said pump cylinder, and a floating bearing for the piston mounted in' the opening in the cover and comprising a sleeve of less diameter than the opening, and positioned in the opening and having outwardly extending flanges at its opposite ends, one Within and the other outside the cover to permit lateral sliding movement of the sleeve with respect to the cover.

A combined tank and pump comprising a receptacle including a cover having an opening therethrough, a pump cylinder secured to a the receptacle, a piston movable through the opening in the cover and in said pump cylinder, and a floating bearing for the piston mounted in the opening in the cover and comprising a sleeve of less diameter than the opening, and positioned in the opening and having outwardly extending flanges at its opposite ends, one within andthe other outside the cover to permit lateral sliding movement of the sleeve with respect to the cover, a return bent flange on the flange within the cover, and an annular gasket having its s inner edge gripping the piston and itsouter edge confinedin the channel formed between the flange within the cover and the return bent flange. i I Y a 4.
