Many business and professional enterprises are seriously inconvenienced when, for any reason, the electric light supply is cut 11, and it is the object of my invention to devlse novel means whereby, When the electric light supply is, for any reason, interrupted, a source of light supply can be provided by the use of a flash light which can be inserted in the ordinary electric light socket, so that by 1 simply removing the lamp and screwing the flash light into place in the electric light socket the work will not be interrupted.
It sometimes happens when a surgeon is in the midst of a serious operation that the electric. light service is interrupted and no lighting means are present to enable the surgeon to complete the operation, and in some cases this involves serious complications;
With the above and other objects in view,
my invention comprehends a novel construction and arrangement of a flash light adapted to be received in the ordinary electriclight socket of house lighting circuits, so that the flash light can be used in the place of'an elec-- tric lamp of ordinary electric light sockets. It further comprehends a novel construction and arrangement of an emergency cap which is adapted to replace the end cap of a flash light, said emergency cap having ex tending from it a threaded sleeve which can be inserted into an ordinary electric light socket. It is, however, tobe understood that this embodiment is typical only and that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and the invention is not, therefore,
limited to the precise arrangement and 01-- ganization of these instrumentalitiesas herehr 13x) 7 in set forth.

7 Referring to the drawings 1 designates'a flash light of any desired or conventional type having a casing 2, to'one end'of which'is secured the lens 3 by means of athreaded sleeve 4:- The casing contains the usual battery and electrical connections to the conventional lamp. The battery terminal is electrically connected with the casing in the usual manner by means of a spring 5, which is seated in and contacts with the emergency cap 6, embodying my invention.

The operation will now be readily apparent to those skilled in this art and is as follows The flash light operates in the well known manner, the circuit through the lamp being opened and closed by manipulating the switch 14. a r
If the electric light circuit becomes tem-' porarily interrupted, the lamp at the place where the work is being done is removed from its socket, and the threaded plug 9 attached to the flash light is screwed into place in the lamp socket 15. The switch 14 is then actuated to close ..the electric circuit of the flash light, and the workman is able to proceed with his work.
In many cases arising in practice, a multiple socket is used, and the flash light is secured to one of said sockets so that it is always ready for use when needed, and the other socket or sockets would carry the con- 7 ventional electric lamps. T
It will now be apparent that V vised a new and useful mechanically controlled switch plug which embodiesthe features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and that while I have, in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof which will give in practice sat-isfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that this embodinient is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the lnvention or sacrificing j any of its advantages.
