Description

March 25, 1930. M. REMY 1,752,110
COMBINATION SLIDE, SEESAW, AND JUMPING BOARD Filed March 11, 1927 Patented Mar. 25, 1930 UNITED STATES MATILDA REMY, F WELLESLEY, MASSACHUSETTS COMBINATION SLIDE, SEESAW, AND JUMPING BOARD Application filed March 11, 1927. Serial No. 174,439.
This invention relates to a device which is intended to furnish healthful amusement, exercise, and recreation for children.
Among the objects of the present invention,
is to provide a device which is of a simple and sturdy construction, which is adjustable for children of various sizes, which may be easily and rapidly assembled and disassembled, and which is capable of serving a multiplicity of uses, and more especially as a seesaw, a walking, balancing or jumping board, and a slide.
The device of the present invention consists in general of one or more boards constructed for assembly with one or more standards which are provided with a plurality of supporting rungs, any one or more of which may be selectively engaged by the boards, as may be desired.
Further features and advantageous details and combination of parts will appear from a more complete description of an embodiment of the device shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 illustrates in perspective a standard. V
Figure 2is a similar view showing a board.
Figure 3 represents a side elevation partly in section, of the device assembled with one standard, as a seesaw.
Figure 4 is a similar view, showing the device assembled with two boards and two standards, as a walking board.
Figure 5 represents a side elevation, partly broken away, of a board assembled with one standard, as a slide.
Figure 6 is a detail section on the line 66 of Figure 8.
Referring to the drawings, the standard designated as a whole as A, preferably constructed of wood, comprises a pair of spaced supporting bases in which are fixed a pair of posts 2, which are bridged transversely and maintained in spaced relationship by a plurality of spaced supporting rungs 5, whose ends are fixed therein. Each of the posts is maintained rigidly in place by a triangularlyshaped brace 3, fastened at its apex portion 3 to the post and at its base portions 3* to the base 1. The bases are also maintained rigidly in place by fastening thereto a straddle piece 4, extending transversely from one base to the other and provided at its ends with downwardly projecting portions 4*, which engage the outer face 1 of the bases, to prevent lateral separation thereof.
A board designated as 6 is shown provided at its under side, near its ends and at its center, with a pair of spaced cleats 8, forming between them recesses 9 which may be made to engage selectively any one of the rungs 5 of the standard A. As shown in Figure 3, wherein the device is used as a seesaw, the top rung is engaged in the recess formed at the central portion of the board. If it is desired that the device accommodate smaller children, the board is placed on a lower rung.
dotted line, or with the bottom rungs. \Vhen the top or middle rungs are used, preferably another similar board 7 is assembled with the bottom rungs so as to maintain the device more rigidly assembled.
As shown in Figure 5, the board is engaged i at one end on one of the rungs, and rests on the ground at the other end, thus constituting a slide.
A device such as described, because of its multiple uses, in addition to aiding physical development, arouses the interest of children and stimulates imaginative play.
Having thus described an embodiment of this invention, it is evident that various changes might be made without departing from the spirit or scope of invention as delined by the appended claims.
\Vhat I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a pair of standards, each of which is provided with a plurality of transversely extending rungs, of a pair of horizontal, flat-faced boards provided with recesses on their under sides near their ends, in which recesses the rungs of said pair of stand- 7 ards loosely engage each of said boards at difi'erent levels, the board at the lower level 7 serving to maintainthe device in rigid assembly. c
2. In a, device of the class described, the
combination with a pair of standards, each of which =is provided with .a pair of" spaced supporting bases, uprights fixedtosa'idbases and a plurality of rungs transversely bridge 10 ing said uprights, ofa pairof.,horizqntal,.flatc faced'boards provided with recesses on their under sides near their ends, in which recesses said rungs in pairs loosely engage each of said boards at different levels, the board sat-th lower level serving to maintain the device in rigid assembly.
In testimony-whereof I have gafiixed -myr signature. l
