Referring in detail to the drawings, '5 designates an elongated guide bed which is adapted to be suitably secured upon the deck of the vessel. This guide bed is of channel shaped form in cross section having the parallel longitudinalside walls 6 to the upper edges of which angle bars 7 are secured with one of their flanges projecting inwardly from the wall 6 as shown in Fig. 4: of the drawings. Upon the rod or shaft 15 the davit member 20 is mounted at one of its ends for pivotal movement, said davit having an anchor chain guiding sheave 21 journalled in its other end and a transversely positioned rod 22 fixed to said davit member inwardly of said sheave and terminating at its ends in the heads 23.
As shown, the davit member includes longi-v tudinally converging side bars 24 rigidly con nected with each other by the. reinforced channel'shaped plate 25. Said davit member also includes the additional parallel mem'- bers 26; extending beneath the plate 25 and projecting rearwardly from said plate and having their rear ends loosely engaged upon the pin or rod 15.
1 Upon the rod 15 a pinion 28 is secured and is engaged by the gear 29 fixed on a shaft 30 journalled in the spaced members 26 of the davit member. This gear in turn meshes with a gear 311 secured upon the shaft 32 which-is journalled in the spaced bars 26.
To the opposite ends of this shaft 32, the extremities of an elongated U-shaped bar 33 the end portions thereof having inwardly extending flanges 27. This bar in side elevation is of substantially Z-shaped form having an intermediate angular bend 34 in each of the side parts there-- of and'between which the davit member is adapted to project so that the intermediate portion of said U-shaped bar will be posi: tioned above the outer end of the extended davit member as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. By the provision of the gearing just described, the U-shaped bar 33 will at all times be maintained in the same horizontal position relative to the davit carriage during the pivotal movements of said davit member as will be readily seen from a comparison of Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings.
Spaced bars 35 are also pivotally mounted adjacent one of their ends upon the fixed rod 15, said end portions of the bars in spaced relation to said rod being provided with shoulders indicated at 36 which are'adapted the members 24 of the .davit member. Be-

means for moving the carriage in'the opposite no a the davitmember is released to move the latter past a perpendicular position and permit the same to drop by gravity to an ex-t to the davit I member.
