When the piston -8-'- is forced downwardly the check valve -9+ is raisedby the suction created within cylinder -l3-, thus drawing the fluid into the same.
Vlfhen the piston is actuated in the opposite direction, or upwardly, check valve -9- is immediately closed. Y
The check valve -'-9- closes instantly by its own weight without the movement of the piston -8- within the cylinder `-l3. v As the piston travels upwardly the check valve -`15 is moved upwardly by the fluid which is forced from the cylinder -13- through the outlet nozzle -l6-. The checkl valve -l5 is immediately closed Yby gravity l whenever the operation of the pump ceases.
The piston cups -7-7- are formed preferably of two stampings with the peripheral l edgetapered to a feather edge. The cups -7-r-7-fare preferablyof brass or copper,
or a softer -metal in relation to a cylinder of harder metal such as steel or iron, into which said cupsrare forced under compression. The piston cups--7-7-- being`.005 larger than ythediameter ofthe cylinder -l3, and being lof flexible material andy form, the peripheral edges are constantly expanded by fluid pressure against the inside of each cup duringtheir operation within the cylinder.
