in the closed position.
' Other objects will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing the safety catch in the locked position;
Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 1 but in the i open position;
Fig. 1 is a side view of the hinged lever portion of safety catch;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank for the I supporting and spring portion of the safe- 7 hinges; and
ty catch;
Fig. 6 is the pin upon which the catch lever Fig. 7 is a side view of the device on a badge or the like.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the supporting portion upon which the hinged lever portion 2 of the catch is mounted, rocking or oscillating on The supporting portion 1 is in one piece bent to form'two opposite sides, each side 4; being a duplicate of the opposite side 4, with elongated cut-out portions 5 in the middle of each and duplicate openings 6 in which pins 3 are inserted and which protrude through I the side, engaging openings 15 on each side 'of lever'2 as the sides4= of supporting portion 1 are bent upward and pressed against both sides of lever 2, forming the hinge for the lever.
From one end of supporting portion 1 is a thinner tapered piece 7 which is bent upward in a half circle gradually tapering towards a point as it approaches the end 8, and acting as a spring when it engages and disengages the notch 9 in the hinged lever portion 2 of the catch.
1929. Serial No. 352,414.
hinged lever 2 and 5 of supporting portion 1, and is pressed down upon surface 13 of hinged lever portion 2 it automatically closes the opening 5 by the spring end portion 8 of the supporting part 1, engaging the notch 9 of the hinged lever 2 which swings the upper curved portion 12 across the opening 5 in locking position.
To open the locked catch it is necessary to press down on protruding hinged lever portion 2 which swings the upper curved portion 12 up, from across the opening 5 to the open position.
The device thus forms a snap catch which can be opened or closed by finger pressure,
to snap the lever 2 into or out of engagement with the spring tongue 7 and when engaged the pin 10 will be confined in the slots 11 and 5. The catch will ordinarily be applied to an emblem 20 or the like having a hinged pin as 7 shown in Fig. 7
I claim: I 1. A pin catch comprising a slotted memher having a spring tongue, and a slotted lever pivoted to said member to swing transversely across the pin and engageable with said tongue in closed position, the slots receiving the pin to be fastened and being opened or closed by movement of the lever.
2. A pin catch comprising a fixed member having opposite slotted sides and a spring tongue, and a slotted lever pivoted between the sides and adapted to swing transversely across the pin to open or closed position, and
having a portion engaged by the tongue when 5.
having an open ended slot, said member also having a spring tongue projecting from the base thereof, and a lever pivoted between the sides and engageable at its free end with said tongue when in closed position, said lever having an open end slot extending cross wise of the slots in the fixed member when the catch is closed, the pin being engageable in said slots.
4. A pin catch as set forth in claim 3, the
tongue being curved to snap under the end of portion 14 of the 60 the lever when the latter is swung to closed position.
5. A pin catch as set forth in claim 3, the lever having a notch in Which the spring tongue is engaged When the lever is swung to closed position.
In testimony whereof, I do afiix my signature.
