Description
Jan. 21,1930. H. MSCHULER ATMOBILE SCREEN Filed 001;. 12, 1926 H1B/L5 E11-Lul@ 1" Patented Jan. `21, '1930 .application tiled october ist, that. Serial lilo. MLMG..
This invention relates to vvindovv guards and more particularly to a screen adapted to he rnounted in covering relation to a vlin dovv of an automobile and prevent hees and a other insects :troni entering the vehicle @ne ohj'ect ot the invention is to perrnit the screen. to loe securely hut reinovahly applied to the loody portion ot a door ot' a vehicle Without interfering with opening or je closing ot the glass closure panel.,
Another object olf the invention is to provide the screen vvith a guarded passage through which a hand may he passed in order to zgrasp the handle oit a door and open it.
is The invention is illustrated in the accom-- panying; drawing wherein Figure l is a perspective view showing the interior out the l'orvvard portion et a closed autoinoloile havinj,d the iinproved screen apao plied to its door;
l@ y@ is a sectional vievv talren on the line :El is enlarged sectional view taken e line 3-3 ot Fige h lin 'lliggx l, the screens which is indicated in hy the nnineral ls has been shov-.fn aV ied to the door il oit a closed automobile, htJ it will he understood that the screens could also he applied to the side and rear 'vndows or Windshield opening. The screen o s .Us olf a sheet oli Woven iv '.e 5 preterahly ot copper or other rust-prooi nietai and has its .not ins protected loy a hindingg i :termed ont oilcloth or other suitable tahric. Sockets are secured in openings torined inthe hindinp, id serve not only as soclrets hat also as fasteners to assist the stitching,1 o in :hrrnly retainingg1 the binding' in place aloout the woven sheet 3. 5i hand openingi7 is termed ao in the Woven vvire sheet 8 adjacent one -lovver corner thereof and has its margins protected hy' binding; 8 which is similar to the hindn ir 't and preterahiy secured hy stitches A ciosnre flap l which is also oiloloth and ot' a siihicient site to close the opening; Z' is secured adjacent its upper end hy a line of stitching Ill and adjacent its lov/er corners carries sockets l2 Which are sinaller than the sockets 5 and adapted to he snapped into engagement vvith studs i3 seWed to the binding 8 adjacent 50 its lovver cornersu ivilh therefore, he seen that the closure ldap may he normally held shut hut can loe easily released and swung upwardly to an open position when it is desired to pass a hand through the opening Y and grasp a latch operating handle projecting outwardly from a vehicle door. The screen is of sucient length and Width to completely cover the Window opening` of a door to Which it is to he applied and in order to securely hold it in place there has been provided studs ir-9 the threaded Shanks l5 of which are screwed into the body yet the door., The studs disposed in spaced relation to each other about the inargins ot the Window openine ot the door and each is provided with .a head lo to into a cooperating" soclret 55 as shown in litigi A grooveli is "orined 'in the head so that the shank l5 may he turned into the Vhody et the door 7o through the inediuin oit' a screrv driver and collar l@ is titted upon the shank in con taeting engagement with the head so that the shanlt may not he screwed too far into the dooru will thus he seen that the screen may I he very easily applied to a door and Will he very securely hut releasahly held in place.. The screen `will serve to very effectively exclude insects from an antoinohile and will also to seine extent exclude dust. hen use eo of the screens are not necessary, they may be removed and stored in the automobile.
iti'aving thas described the invention7 l claim:
t screen comprising a sheet of screening es ot greater dimensions than an opening to be covered thereby, a binding tor the margins vof said sheet consisting` ot a strip iolded longitudinally and disposed about' the sheet in straddling relation to the margins thereof o0 with side portions overlapping opposite faces of the sheet, fastener members passed through the side portions of the binding and the marginal portions of the sheet overlapped thereby and serving to secure the binding of the sheet, and companion fastener members adaptedto be mounted about the borders of an opening and releasably engageable with the first-mentioned fastener members to removably secure the sheet in covering relation to the opening.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
