This invention, stated in its broadest terms, relates to ladies wearing apparel, and has more especial relation to fastening attachments for the shoulder portions of an outer garment, whereby lingerie and the like may be properly supported to prevent slipping out of place.

The leading object of the present invention may be said to reside in the provision of a reinforced seam for an outer garment of ladies wearing apparel to suitably receive and support a fastening attachment conventionally known as snap fastener attachment.

Other and further objects of the present invention reside in the provision of general details of construction, and arrangement and combination of parts for attaining the results sought by the leading object.

The inventioneonsists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.

The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:

Fig. 1, is a view in perspective illustrating in full lines a ladys outer garment, and illustrating in dot and dash lines-the fastening attachment and the manner in which the same supports lingerie and the like.

Fig. 2, is a fragmentary view of the shoulder portion of a ladys outer garment as viewed from the inside, and illustrating a snap fastener as applied thereto.

Fig. 3, is a view in section taken upon the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4, is a view in section taken upon the line 4-4 of'Fig. 2.

Fig. 5, is a fragmentary view somewhat similar to Fig. 2.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalit1es as herein shown and. described.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 designates a ladys outer garment, as for instance a waist, shirt waist, blouse, dress, or robe. Extending from the collar 2 thereof upon each side of the shoulder portion is a tape 4., which tape 4 extends to the arm holes 3. The tape 4 follows the line of stitching from the collar to the arm holes so that a shoulder reinforcement is provided. The tape 4 is stitched to the underside of each shoulder portion to form a piped seam. Secu red to the strip of tape 4, as by a line of stitching 5, is 'a piece.of tape 6 comprising a tab provided with a part 7 of a snap fastener adapted to cooperate with a companion part 8 of the snap fastener the part 8 being attached to the tape 4. Thus, shoulder straps 9 of lingerie 10 may be retained in proper position by passing the tab 6 beneath the shoulder straps as shown in 1, and snapping the fastener part 7-8 to place; and in this connection it may be remarked that because of the reinforcing tape 4- across the shoulders of the outer garment 1, the snap fastener parts when subjected to stress and strain efficiently resist such stress and strain and serve to maintain the shoulder straps in proper position. The tab approximates onethird the distance between said neck portion and arm-hole.

It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and. useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and while I have in the present instance shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the. same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

What I claim is:

Aladys garment having a collar and sleeves stitched thereto, said garment also having shoulder portions extending from the collar to the sleeves, a piece of tape forming a reinforcing strip stitched to the underside of each shoulder portion to form a piped seam, each seam extending from said collar along a shoulder portion to the stitching securing a sleeve to the garment, tabs, each having one end thereof only stitched to the underside of a reinforcing strip and arranged nearer to the garment neck portion than to the garment arm hole, the free end of each tab being provided with a snap fastener part, and a companion snap fastener part secured to each of said reinforcing strips, each tab in interlocked position paralleling a reinforcing strip.
