Description

Dec. 17, 1929. R. F. BARTON 1,739,816
PHOTOGRIIXIC PORTRAIT ENLARGEHENT VI SUALI ZER Filed llay 12, 1928 INVENTOR W /Ju7:
ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 17, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BALPH I. BARTON, O]? NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO PHOTOMATON, INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT ENLARGEMENT VISUALIZER Application filed May 12, 1928.
The object of the present invention is to provide means by which a small photographie portrait, such as made on the Photomaton photographie apparatus, may be visualized by a customer in enlarged for1n, so as t0 enable the customer to judge by inspection the appearanoe of the portrait if enlarged. The apparatus is preferably adjustable so as to enable the portrait to be thrown in various sizes upon a ground glass.
The invention Will be described With refernce to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation of said embodiment, on the line 22, Fig. 1;
Figure 3 is an end view of the device, and
Figure 4 is a sectional plan of the device.
' The apparatus consists of boxlike casing 1, of greater length than the cross section, and elosed at its front end by a ground glass 2 and at its rear end by a mbvable wall 3. YVall 3 may be hinged at 4 so as to enable access to the rear portion of the casing. Carried by movable Wall 3 is a holder 5 for the reception of the photographie image to be enlarged. The holder may be formed in any suitable manner and is shown as a fianged receptacle open at one end so that the image may readily be moved into position.
At the front of the image holder 5 is a lens-carrying partition wall 6 carrying an enlarging lens 7 the latter being disposed in register with the image holder.
Near the front end of the casing, but shielded by the walls of the same, is the frame 2" carrying the ground glass 2.
Each side Wall of the casing may be formed With a longitudinally extending guide slot 8 which may be protected by velvet strips.
Projecting through the slot at one side of the box is a stud 9 earrying a thumb-piece 10. The stud is carried by the lens holding partition Wall 6. At the opposite side of the Serial No. 277,166.
The ground glass trame, also, is provided with a stud 11 projecting through slot 8 and having a thumb-piece 12. At the opposite side of the box the slot therein receives a stud which is connected to the ground glass trame, the stud being similar to stud 11 and having a thumb-piece similar to that number 12. By such means the ground glass may be adjusted toward and from the lens, so that the two adjustments may be employed to vary the size of the image thrown on the ground glass.
VVithin the casing at each side of the lens is a lamp 13 having a refiector 14 by means of which rays of light are thrown on the image held by holder 5, and, by reflection, the image is thrown through the lens and onto the ground glass.
Itwill be nnderstood that various modifications may be made in the form and arrangement of the elements without departing from the spirit of the invention. What I claim and 4 desire to secure by Letters Patent being as follows:-
A photographie portrait enlargement visualizer, comprising a box-like casing, the rear of the casing being formed with a. movable v wall, the Wall being adapted to receive and support a photographie image and a side wall of the casing being formed with a longitudinal slot, a partition movable longitudinally within the casing, an enlarging lens carried by the partition, illuminating means rearwardly of the partition for throwing rays of light upon the movable wall, a ground glass within the casing forwardly of the partition and movable toward and from the latter and means carried by the partition and ground glass and projecting through said slot whereby said partition and glass may be manually adjusted longitudinafly of the casing, Whereby a small photograph carried by the WELH may be thrown upon the ground glass t0 demonstrate its appearance in various degrees of enlargement.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
RALPH F. BARION.
