This invention relates to a combined curtain, awning and shade, and an object is to provide means for utilizing a curtain as an awning and shade in connection with w1n:

Another object of the invention is to provide a sheet of material for use as a curtain, awning and shade, in combination with a rotary tube'or cylinder for supporting the same, gravity actuated means forming a weight in connection with the roller edge of the curtain, awning and shade for extending the same downwardly when the tube or cylinder is permitted to rotate, and means for securing the lower edge of the curtain, awning and shade around the outwardly extended edge of a pivotally supported window sash in a relationship to permit free circulation of air around the edges of the curtain, awning 20. and shade through the window.
Another object of the invention is to pro-v vide improved means for rotating the supporting tube or cylinder to wind the curtain, awning and shade thereon and the device for holding said rotating means in any selected position to prevent turning of the tube or cylinder in either direction, so that the curtain, awning and shade will remain in its different adjustments.
' Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the drawings, in which Fig. 1 is an inside view of my invention applied to a double window.

tube or cylinder 1 rotatively supported in fixtures of novel construction, and having the curtain, awning and shade elements for the respective window connected therewith; In using the invention in connection with two or more windows, I provide a pair of end fixtures, each comprising a rod or wire shaped to form a ring 2 (Fig. 5) and a pair of angular arms 3' extending upwardly from the'ring, and thence outwardly, one above the other, through the flange 4 of a metallic window frame, and being clamped in connection with the frame by nuts 5. The intermediate fixture comprises a wire or rod shaped to form a ring 6 and a pair of outwardly extending arms 7 passing through the intermediate portion of a metallic channel window frame member 8 and secured thereto by clamping nuts 9 in a relationship in which the rings 2 and 6 are in horizontal alinement. The tube or cylinder 1 is rotati-vely mounted in these fixtures and held from longitudinal movement in either direction by inwardly extended flanges 10 of the window frame structure.
The tube or cylinder 1 has a longitudinal slot 11. The upper edge of each combined curtain, awning and shade 12 extends v through the slot 11 and is secured around a rod 13 within the tube or cylinder 1, which rod is of greater diameter than the width of the slot 11, so that it cannot pass through said The lower end of each combined curtain, awning and shade is secured around a comparatively heavy rod 14:, the weight of which is 'sufiicient to hold the part 12 extended and to prevent the same from becoming crinkled. Asa reinforcement and to prevent tearing of the material of the part 12, a strong thread 15 is wound around the material 12 near each end of the rod 14 and sewed through the folded material, as clearly shown in Fig.3. A sprocket wheel 16 is attached to the tube or cylinder 1 adjacent to the middle fixture 6 and opposite the middle window frame part 8. An endless sprocket chain 17 is supported I on the sprocket wheel 16 and extends downwardly to a point near the lower end of the window, one part of the sprocketchain being within the channel of the frame member 8 and the other part being toward the inside of the roll for convenient manual engagement. This sprocket chain passes through a guide block 18 secured to the frame member 8 near the lower end of the latter. For use in connection with this guide block to hold the chain from movement, I provide a latch element comprising an insertable. and withdrawable pin 19 which may be passed through the block andacross the hole through which the chain passes and between adjacent tions. turn on their horizontal axes from closed'toopen positionand vice versa. Ibwillibe understood that, when these combined-curtains, awningsand shades are used in series, as shown, any one or moreof' them maybe adjusted as described; as it is unneclyextended end of said second windowi essary to open all of the corresponding windowns 22. Thus, one or more of the devices may be used as a combined curtain, awning and shade, while the remainder may be used as curtains without being extended to the outside.

The combination with a window frame, a window in the upper portion of said frame, another window pivoted in said frame below said first named window for turning movements on a horizontal axis to position in which one end thereof is extended outwardly, and means for holding said second window in the position aforesaid, of a sheet of shade material having one end supported near the upper end of said frame at the inner side of said first window, means for holding said shade in position in which it extends below said first window and downwardly and outwardly against the outwardly extended end of said second window, means for rolling and unrolling said sheet, and a device for preventing accidental operation of said means.
7. In a window of the character described, a
- frame, window elements in said frame, a roller at the inner side of said window elements, a sheet of shade material attached to said roller, means for operating said roller to roll and unroll said sheet, and means cooperating with said sheet for holding said sheet extended at full width downwardly and outwardly through said frame beyond the outer sides of said window elements.

In a window of the character described, a frame, window elements in said frame, a roller at the inner side of said window elements, a sheet of shadematerial attached to said roller, means for operating said roller to roll and unroll said sheet, means cooperating with said sheet for holding said sheet extended at full width downwardly and outwardly through said frame beyond the outer sides of said window elements, and a device for preventing rotation of said roller.
