Description
Nov. 19, 1929. A. w. KElcHLlNE 1,736,653
BED FOR APARTMENTS Filed May 17, 1924 2 sheets-smeetl 1 INVENTOR WITNESS: ATTORNEY Nov. 19, 1929. A. w. KEICHLINE BED FOR APARTMENTS Filed May 17, 1924 2 Sheets-Sheet INVENTOR WITNESS:
ATTORNEY Patente-d Nov. 19, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BED FOR APARTMENTS Application led May 17, 1924. Serial No. 714,113.
The object of this invention is to provide a folding bed especially intended for use where the elements of the bedstead are designed to fold into the wall structure of an apartment, and in the drawings the sides of a wall recess for the purpose indicated are shown conventionally.
In these drawings, Figure 1 is a View of the structure in vertical longitudinal section;
Figure 2 is a horizontal section on line 2 2 o1 Figure 1; Figure 3 is a vertical section,
with the bed folded; Figure A is an elevation lookingirom the right in Figure 3.
The headboard 65 of the bed is proportioned in accordance with the size of the wall recess before mentioned (and deiined by walls such as A and B) ,the side rails are designated 66, 67, and the 'ootboard 68. Weights for the rails are shown at 69, and panels such as 8 forming a bottom for each bed are movable with the side rails about a horizontal axis defined by pins or pivots 17 extending into the walls A. The panels are retained by slidable rack bars 19 controlled by pinion or the like 20 and handle 21. The side rails include or mount a plurality of relatively slidable elements or bars 70, 71, and the foot* board includes side extensions 72 each pivotally connected by a pin 7 3 with element 71, so that as bar 71 changes its position relative to the adjacent side rail, due to fixed pin and movable cam slot connection 74, 75, and the downward movement of the side rails,-the footboard will swing about pivot-al elements 7 3 and automatically move to vertical position as the side rails come to horizontal position. The corner posts are shown at 76,
77, a set of bed springs at 78, and a mattress at 7 S). The relatively slidable elements 70,
o 71 may be parallel bars or telescoping members, and in general details of construction may be varied within the scope of the claim.
The footboard in closing clamps the bedding to the bottom of the bed.
What I claim is:
In a folding bed, spaced stationary elements, a plurality of side members between said elements and movable about a horizontal axis from vertical position outwardly and downwardly, a foot board adapted to swing over and above the bed including the side members, devices pivoted to the side members and rigid with the foot board, bars slidable longitudinally of the side members and mounted thereon, these bars moving in a fixed path longitudinally, and having pin and curved slot connection with said devices rigid with the foot board, the ends of the side members near the head of the bed having curved slots therein, and pins passing through the 6@ adjacent ends or' the bars and the slots last named, the pins being fixed in the stationary elements.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
ANNA WAGNER KEICHLINE.
