Description

Oct. 29, 1929. B. REDDEMANN 1,733,754 I SPRINKLER FOR DISTRIBUTING FOAM FOR FIRE EXTINGUISHING PURPOSES Filed Aug. 31, 1927 Patented Oct. 29, 1929 UNITED STATES PATET OFFICE BERNI-IARD REDDEMANN, F IBERLIN-LICHTERFELDE, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO PYREN 'E-MINIMAX CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE SPRINKLER FOR DISTRIBUTING FOAM 'FOR FIRE-EXTINGUISHING PURPOSES Application filed August 31, 1927, Serial No.
My invention relates to a sprinkler for distributing foam for fire extinguishing purposes, and more particularly to such a device in which the foam dropping down from above is accurately confined to a definite width on the ground below, Such a restricted spraying of the foam upon the fioor may, for instance, become necessary in connection with sprinkler located above gangways or alleys between rows of transformers or oil switches in electric power plants.
According to my invention the sprinkler is provided with deflecting or baffie plates, which are, for example, pivoted upon a collar or strap surrounding the foam delivery pipe and which may thus be adjusted under any suitable angle to the sprinkler. The foam squirted uniformly towards all sides by the sprinkler is at the places where it encounters the baffle plates deflected from the direction in which it is projected so that it covers on the floor a comparatively long but narrow area, the width of which may be varied at will.
The drawing aflixed hereto illustrates an embodiment of my invention.
Referring to the single figure of the drawing, a is a fire foam pipe descending from the ceiling from which the foam is conducted through the webs c on to a distributor plate f, so that it passes along in the direction of the arrows. Upon the lower end of the pipe at is mounted a collar or strap 1) which carries pins cl upon which baffle or deflecting plates 6 of suitable size are pivoted. As clearly shown in the drawing these plates 6 may be adjusted under any desired angle to the axis of the pipe 6. They may be fixed in the adjusted position by winged nuts or the like screwed upon the pins 6. The foam is conducted against the floor, of the room to be protected in the direction of the arrows shown in the lower part of the drawing.
Various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and the appended claim should be interpreted in the light of the prior knowledge.
I claim as my invention In a sprinkler device for fire foam, in
216,663, and in Germany September 1, 1926.
said horizontal bafiie plate, and means for locking said plates in any angular position to the axis of said foam delivery pipe.
