This invention relates to packing containers of the kind in which the ends are stiffened and strengthened by means of inserted end members (bottoms or lids).
It is known to stiffen iron vessels made up of several parts by means of internalstiifeir ing or reinforcing rings of strip iron. 1n the case of iron vessels having a wall in one piece, it is also known to stiffen the wall by means of circumferential grooves or corrugations impressed in the wall.
The present invention consists in providing a packing container of the kind specified, with internal stiffening ribs which subdivide the wall, said ribs being formed from the wall of the container itself and comprising single folds, the sides of which are pressed together. By this means the advantage is obtained that even containers, the walls of which are made of comparatively thin material, are braced and have considerable strength. During the transport of the containers, moreover, complete utilization of the loading space is possible because no externally projecting stiffening hoops or the like are provided and finally the stiffening ribs themselves are protected by the wall of the container from any damage whieh external ribs might be subjected to.

Referring to the drawings, a, is the wall of the vessel and b the internal reinforcing ribs formed from the said wall. Each of the reinforcing ribs consists of a single internally projecting fold made by grooving or corrugating the wall of the container and subsequently pressing the sides of the fold together so as to form a fiat annular rib.
The invention is applicable to packing and storing containers of all descriptions, for in stance, barrels, cans, buckets, containers for carboys and the like, as well as to vessels which are manufactured of fibre, ca rdboard, celluloid and like flexible material.
What I claim is A thin walled container approximately cylindrical in shape but some of the zones of which are slightly greater in diameter than others with the zones of the greatest diameter provided with an inwardly projecting reinforcing fold for stiffening said zone, said fold being formed from the wall of the container, the walls of the fold being pressed flat to gether to form inwardly projecting ribs at places most exposed to greatest strain, and whereby said strengthening folds being located on the interior of the container are protected from damage during transportation. 7
