The present invention relates, generally to sl'iarpeninp,` devices; and the inventlonhas reference, more particularly to a novel construction of device for removably holding especially safety razor blades in. a manner for being sharpened. whereby the person when accomplishing' the sharpening process will not risk the danger of being cut as well as permitting` the blades to be effectively whetted and honed without liability of damaging a strop.
The invention has for` its principal object to provide a novel construction of razor blade holder for holding' yrazor blades, and
l5 the like, which serves not only to rigidly hold the razor blade during the sharpening operation, but also positions the blade to the best advantage for sharpening.
The invent-ion has for a further object to )rovide a simple, two piece razor blade holder consisting of a body and a slide inember that may be easily manufactured, operated and retained in a sanitary condition.

lV ith the various objects of the present invention in view` the same consists, primarily,
5W in the novel holder for razor blades and the like, hereinafter set forth; and the invention consists, furthermore, in the various f arrangementsfand combinations of the several devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be more fully described in the following` specification, and then finally embodied in the claim which is appended thereto.

Referring now to the said drawings, the reference numeral l indicates the complete novel razor blade holder, the same comprising a main body 2 that is adapted to retain and serve asfa guide for a slide member 3. The main body 2 is preferably formed from sheet metal and is of suitable dimensions to permit of being conveniently held in G5 the hand of a person. yBody 2 has a central portion 4 ythat yis provided at its forward edge with a pair of spaced retainingr lugs or guide members 5.k The lugs are formed so as to overlie the innersurface of the body 2 70 and are spacedffrom this body so as to per-y mit the insertion of the slide 3 beneath the body and the, lugs 5. The slide member 3 is shaped so as to conform to the body 2. The inner surface 17 of slide member 3 is formed so as to provide a depression or recess 15 that is arranged to cooperate with the recess 8 in attaching the razor blade 11 to the razor blade holder 1. rlhe recess 15 extends to the end of the slide 3. longitudinal groove 16 is also provided in the slide 3 and extends from the other end of this slide to substantially the center thereof. The groove 16 is adagted to overlie the flowels 12 when the slide member 3 is assembled upon the body 2.
To assemble the slide member upon the body 2 it is merely necessary to place these members end to end so as to insert the end ot' the slide member having the groove 1G under the lug lll on the reduced end portion G. 'lhe members may then be pushed together causing the slide member to pass under the lugs 5 and le, so as to be retained by these lugs upon the body Q. To attach a razor blade to the razor blade holder 1 it is merely necessary to slip the slide member one Way or the other with respectto the body so as to uncover either the recess 8 or the doWels 12 depending upon thc type or" razor blade itis desired to attach. rl'he razor blade is then inserted into the recess 8 or over the doivels 12, as the case may be and the slide member is returned to its normal position so that its end portion overlies the razor blade. The razor blade may be readily removed from the holder by merely slipping the slide member so as to uncover the blade.
inasmuch as the natnral pressure ot the hand presses the slide member against the hardy during' the sharpening operation, there is .no possibility t these members moving lengthwise relative tofeach other during such operation so as to accidentally release the razor blade being sharpened,
lt Twill be noted from the `foregoing that the novel razor blade holder of this invention consists ot but txvo parte and is susceptible of being expedientially and easily manufactured all parts including the doivels 12, being, when deemed expedient, pressed from .sheet metal.
iis many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently idely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing` from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting' sense.
I claim:
A razor blade holder comprising, a body having a recess near one end and a pair of positioning dowels near its other end, said body having Vintegral guides in connection With opposite longitudinal margins thereof, a slide member conforming to said body and selectively movable Within said guides in one direction or the other, said slide member having an open ended recess for cooperating with the recess in said body and an open ended groove for cooperating With the d0W- els in said body.
